  • E36 Widebody Build

well i guess i'll start with how i got the car, got the car as a hand-me-down from my dad about a year ago, he was the only owner bought it new and he's a gearhead just like all of us here so he keep it well maintaned, most of my childhood memories and literally everything i know about cars can all be credited to that one car... however now its 2010 and the car i so deeply love, isn't...well, getting much love, and i figured im gonna keep this thing for a while so it was time for an update...looked like this when i got it

yeah so then i got some new tires, old wheels refinished, painted sideskirts, painted bumper, drop, and stopped using my phone to take shitty pics :

    then i washed my car

    then it got dirty again

    then i bought new headlights:

...and they broke in shipping like this, so i got new glass-free

all the while the car still looked like this:

and this is what it looked like about a month ago depo HID's, angel eyes, blacked out corners, carbon fiber eyelids, and a rattle canned engine bay :

yeah yeah i kno, clean car why would you fuck it up with a widebody?

    because i CAN!

well honestly i decided it was time for something different, and i didn't want just some slightly tuned up old bimmer, i wanted something that was more worthy of demonstrating my love of automobile styling and race cars....can you say factory widebody well i can't it's a replica they don't make them anymore, but never the less it gets the point across so on to the build...

    (following posts copied from bimmerforums.com)

i got the hood and quarter panel off and took a break and started mocking-up the fitment:

its weird none of the parts lined up, until you put the other parts on, anyway heres one of me and the car

not too shabby for having never done body work in my life eh?

    __________________________________________________ ______

ok another small update for today

figured out how to drill all the holes and bolt the quarter panel so it lines up:

bolted the fender onto the front end:

    as she sits:

and now its sunday night...spring break is over for me and i haz to go to school tomorrow so more next weekend

    AND UPDATE FROM YESTERDAY!!

So got a lot done this weekend:

fabricated my own mounts for the bumper since it didn't actually have any mounting points on it, so now it is bolted on:

    bolted on the hood:

and i have to say, i got it from eurostopusa.com and the fitment is FANTASTIC, absolutly no modification at all, and it is not bowed out at all either it lays nice and flat. My only complaint is that one of the holes for the hinges was drilled too far down, so i will have to redrill, but really not a big deal compared to some of the crap that is wrong with these hoods.

also all day saturday me and my friend welded together straight pipes for the car...well not really its only a resonator delete, but coupled with my remus this thing throws out an unmistakable euro throaty growl

i am getting the lines on the kit to start to fit up just how i want them to:

i know the corners have a shitty fit, but they are being cutout for some real turn signals so not much of an issue for me.

Ok so thats it for now i'll prob get a soundclip of the exhaust up tomorrow and hopefully get some more work done next weekend, thanks for looking

Wow. Is is going to get some power to go with the wide?
looks pretty good for just doing the work in the garage. What wheels are you going to go with?

Rims to fit this car are going to be big $$ so be prepared!! It does look pretty darn good for doing it all yourself. Get a good body guy to do the final prep and paintwork and it will look real sharp.
