Operation Dirty Penny - '75 Merc 240D

Started cleaning up the rear end a bit. Removed trunk/tail lights and stripped some more paint.



Then I couldn't help but start messing around inside the engine bay. Tagged everything that was to be deleted and started taking some of it out. The list of what's coming out so far is as follows:
- Heater cores and all hoses associated with it of course
- A/C and all wiring/hoses, etc
- Air Filter Box
- Windshield Washer Reservoir
- Battery and it's tray (relocating to trunk)
- Fan Shroud
- Power Steering

The rest of the wiring is getting tucked away unseen, most hoses are getting replaced with copper. I'm also considering relocating a lot of the extra stuff behind the first firewall. Then any extra holes, tabs, etc in the bay are being shaved and removing the paint all together. So I guess what started as just cleaning it up a bit turned into a full shaved bay project.

It's addicting with this car. There's just so many ideas flowing and I'm just trying to push through and get to the real fun (fab work).

I may have forgot to mention Dirty Penny's evil twin, Das Taxi. A soon to be twin turbo V8 out of an AMG. This one's staying yellow, and yes it does have an original German taxi sign going on it.

wait wait. A twin turbo AMG engine in a W115? Thats going to be a hell of a job fabricating and especially wiring. But that would be the coolest car here and possibly everywhere imo haha.

Dash came out tonight, along with all A/C related components/hoses. Just need to drain the coolant and get the heating system out. Pics to follow tomorrow.

So now that the dash is out, I'm mostly waiting on new floor pans to come in. Then the interior will be scrubbed down and rubber coated to prevent future rust. Then the custom interior work will begin.



While draining the coolant I couldn't help myself on the valve cover, took some 600 grit, then 1,000 grit and finally 2000 grit to a spot real quick. I can't wait to polish this thing up, just need to figure out where I'm going to tuck everything then I'll need to reshape a lot of the bay to make it symmetrical. Should be a good candidate for a unique shave though.



If you look back you can see how busted up the front grille was. Took a torch to it today and hammered it back into form. While going through the glove box I found the original base plate to the star so I swapped the emblem over to that.

This is coming together nicely man. Can't wait to see that bay all shined up.

Got the harness all disconnected from everything inside the bay and tagged. Heater core came out as well as all the extra coolant lines that won't be needed anymore. Motor should be coming out this week.

Picking up a donor car tomorrow for a new trunk lid, grille and manual transmission. If anyone needs any W115/W114 parts, specifically 240D's I will have basically 2 of everything now lol.

Does anyone have a wiring diagram for one of these? I've been having trouble finding one, but there's a lot of stuff I'm deleted so I'm taking the whole harness out.
