  • Love this thread!! Awesome from start to current!

The only thing I have to say is that I would have flipped that oil filter bracket 180 degrees if possible. Come oil change time your bay is gonna get awful messy

In all seriousness this build is awesome and props for not giving up on that rust and what not.

also your gifs are super funny
Your first post about unsubscribing because I didn't update within the hour made me so sad; I felt like I promised to go to my sons baseball game and then forgot about it and remembered later while I was at the bar..

Thanks! I should probably slow the build down so my lovely girlfriend doesn't leave me :,(

I appreciate the support and I can't sleep at night due to the nightmares about my rusty frame.

If I could weld as well as Heist this car would be as good as new. I hope this thread doesn't disappoint.

Thanks! and yeah I dropped the ball on the oil filter, that's why I need suggestions before I rely on my extensive automotive history to solve problems..

      UPDATE

I ordered a NRG harness bar just to redirect the pull of the harness so it would be safer until a cage was installed. It seems that it isn't possible to make a track car safe for the street or a street car safe for the track. I'm trying to make a weekend track car, so I need to meet as much safety from track and highway safety rules/laws. It seems the best option is a roll bar but not cage. That way in a roll over no spines are compressed due to the harness not letting you bend over. I think harnesses are safer than the oem belts in my car because it doesn't have airbags and the 3points are supposed to work in conjunction with bags.

Anyway, here's what I made happen. I still want a roll bar. Let me know what you think safety wise.

I used all factory mounts to locate the brackets for the harness and I wrapped the harness according to corbeau's instructions online. I had to cut the legs off the seats to get them low in the rails. Otherwise everything fit well. I stayed up all night and worked on it. Oh I did have to drill a hole in the Bride seat rails for the submarine part of the harness to mount the bracket.

I love how well the rattle can paint is holding up, it was such a great quick cheap choice.

In other news.. On to the bad of the night, I broke the absolute balls off of this adapter. This lodged the threads into my block of course. Luckily they're so new that i was able to just spin them back out. I called wiring specialties and told them that I hardly torqued the adapter and they said 'yeah we know that those ones are shit, we've already made new ones that are stronger' and they sent them to me. So good on them and also thanks for letting me break it off in the block before telling me.

I cannot remember if I already posted this pic or not but I stole this idea from my best friend and I absolutely love it. His looks a ton more professional than mine, but I did mine in like 5 min.

For anyone interested, all I did was cut the bottom off the bag and then trapped it under that white collar held on by the 4 bolts. The top is just pulled tight at the draw string and then wrapped up and tied. Like I said not too sophisticated, but hit up craig825 on here if you want a factory looking one. His is tight, and the original of the two.

Also, I forgot to mention that I got this for christmas <3

              • Certainly not the first LS s13 ever, but somehow i don't care how many times it is done i still love them. Great work pulling through and fixing rust, it's a shame how many of these have fallen victim to rust and been turned into missles. This is gonna be a good one!

                              • UPDATE!!!!!! So i guess it's time to fire the engine up for the first time. My brother and I arrived at the shop around noon, fully expecting to jump in and start it up and contain my stage 2 chub.

The 240 decided that would be too easy. I got in and flipped the switches. The lights came on but the fuel pump did nothing. I set it up for success and it let me down.

Perfect. On top of that, I realized that even if the fuel pump did come on, it would have nothing to pump. I had forgotten I drained it a long time ago and had exactly 0 gas anywhere around the shop. Remember this is the first time I had really worked on a car. I was getting softer by the minute. We keep getting closer and then messing up the little things.

In my desperation to figure something out, I started digging through the pile of car parts I had taken off the 240 when I first got it. In that pile I found a huge relay box and instantly it clicked. Plugged that in and fuel pump started working. I'm getting good at this. So now the car should start, right? Wrong. It's like the 240 got so excited it forgot how to car.

We started getting frustrated, it was midnight. We've been in the shop for 12 hours now (which is about the same as every time we work in the shop). Then my brother had an idea. Fast Unk showed him a trick where you can start a car by connecting the two terminals on the starter using a wrench. I imagine that would work fine considering that's all the starter switch does anyway. I was extremely dismayed by this solution, because it seemed like sure starter motor destruction. But I wanted to start the motor so bad I would've started it with my balls.

So I was sitting in the car with a fire extinguisher and he was filming while sticking his hand between the headers with a ratchet and attempting to connect the terminals. It was difficult to get a good connection so it just clicked loudly a couple times then I pooped.

Locate a sub woofer or good headphones immediately.
