My paint arrived the other day! A whole bucket load of gloss white, RAL 9016 traffic white to be exact.
Then I de-rusted my new hatch, it had some slight spots near the window frame... apllied some rust proof primer later and tried to paint it, but that's when I finally gave in and decided my old compressor is too damn small.
So I broke down and bought this today. Should be enough for some DIY painting.
Oh, and on Saturday the car failed the TÜV test. Nothing major luckily, ordered all the necessary parts already. If it makes it in the next try, I'll order coils right away.
It looked okay at first glance, but closer inspection showed that I fucked it up.
Paint was too thick.
So I decided to redo it once again,
today I first got rid of the old trim. Had to break it out cause the bolts were rotted through and you couldn't turn them anymore because the whole bolt had rotted out of the trim... but the trim was also glued to the hatch.
Sanded down the hatch and applied some rust proofing primer.
Will be sanding that nice and smooth again and start the next paint attemt on the weekend.
Sprayed the hatch with filler today. Paint going on tomorrow.
Also, I had a second set of RH ZW1s kicking around in 8x17 that I was going to fix up and sell... I decided to just sell the outer lips and build two sets of ZW1 for the car, the planned 10 and 11.25 x 17 set for summer and a 8.5 and 10 set for winter. Started sanding and fillering the second set today since I had originally painted them black...
The hatch came out to my satisfaction. No runs, reasonably smooth, but a few dust particles in the paint... We'll see how it looks in daylight, if they're too noticeable i'll just sand and polish them out.
Wheels came out crap, some runs. Will need some more work...
But it's rather disappointing. I still have 2,5cm thread left in the front, but the rears are maxed out. I'll need to do something about this... probably shorter, stiffer springs.
Pretty disappointing compared to my mate's 530i with SLS in the rear....
Or the 320d of another mate who also came over today
