  • Auto Combine was a great show, I was given one of the greatest booth spots and it was one of those in the entrance way that everyone had to walk by in order to get inside the vendor pavilion.

Had a chance to talk to some really good friends and figured out a few cool things I can do to clean up the Jeep and overall just start fixing the small details.

Bad news, my tires are almost shot and need new ones very very very soon. 18s may be happening much sooner than expected.

        • Just to prove that I'm a total badass, we made it to Auto Combine with a torn leader line covered in silicone, wrapped in duct tape, a rubber hose slid over it, and hose clamped on. 700 miles driven, and just had to "air up" a side 5psi every hour or so.

Also, do you guys think stepping to 18s will look funny? This thought has been racking my brain all week.

I need to learn to rephrase my wheel questions. I meant selling my 19s and building 18s.

Of course I can. Break your suspension, find the neatest Walmart and think of the most serious solution.

              • Any ideas of how I can get the jeep in the air SAFELY with the weight of the Jeep still on it? Almost like a drive on lift? I have some dialing in to do and I can't see what arms are preventing me to go lower, or what other parts may be stopping me.

I've asked around and most shops won't allow me on the rack/lift due to insurance.

                • Get some ramps like these. Then jack up the car and slide them underneath the wheels.

I really need to have enough room to atleast slide under with a creeper. I wouldn't be able to tell when I'm aired out

                      • Well just a little update, the system still isn't dialed in. I'm having some problems such as clunking in the rear when airring down, lines getting unmounted and shredded by the tires, leaks, and some "tapping" while driving.

Luckily I got up on a drive on lift Friday with a technician and had him do a full walk through of my system with me. Turns out my rear bags are rubbing, and if I don't do something tonight they may tear and I'll need 2 new bags. It's getting pinched between the frame rail, and the control arm that the hub mounts onto. The bags are wider than the stock suspension so it's an issue. We are going to attempt to shave the frame rail to allow some more travel room and shave the part of the arm where I'm getting caught up.

My bags still need to get threaded up more on the coilover as it's a little low which I believe is causing the tapping because it's not 100% secured and while the rear suspension is off I'm going to adjust the dampening because it's really soft in the rear right now.

I've put about 2000 miles on the setup so far. The ride isn't bad right now I just really need to do some wrenching.

Oh, my alignment wasn't done properly and now I need 4 new tires. Ordered Nitto Neogens for the front and NT555 for the rear.

                        • Here's where it's getting caught on the control arm(I'm aired up in the picture.

And the frame rail in question.

                          • I feel your pain on these teething issues.

I wonder if you need to notch the frame, like VW guys do for halfshaft clearance, but rotated 90º to clear that bag.

Glad to hear problems are being positively identified and progress is being made. Unfortunately, this is all just part of bagging a car that nobody (or in my case, practically nobody) has done before. You'll get there.

Yeah, I'm sure I'll get them worked out just one thing at a time. It took awhile to identify the problem mainly because I needed the car in the air, but still have the weight of the car. Luckily a friend really stepped up and stayed late at the dealership and threw me on the alignment rack since it was the only drive on lift they had.

Hopefully we can get something temporary done tonight just for safety until I can find someone to notch that section properly.

                              • We ran into all kinds of problems like that with the Forte when we bagged it. Downfalls of doing something new! Unfortunately you'll just have to keep driving and fix things as they break or make enough commotion for you to notice them. Looks like you're headed in the right direction though! I would strongly suggest checking the condition of your bags every night when you park. It's never fun having a bag pop while you're driving.
