Im starting with the 58mm and going from there, I opted for a PTE 5862 as ive heard nothing but good things about their turbos.
I originally went with the Garrett GTX3078R but wanted something with a little more flow, little larger but didnt want to really go GT35/40. Amongst looking at flow charts and charateristics they seem to spool the same as a GTX30, and flow around if not a little more than a 35 - 40ish equivilant... I thought id make a leap and try something new.. Far too many builds with Garrett turbos, I wanted to try something a little different.

Will be making the manifold in the next couple of months for this, Decided to try a sidewinder manifold - Looking forward to seeing how much this influences lag.. I guess its all hit and miss but ive calculated full spool should be around 4.5kish which will leave another 4k+ until the limiter. Excited putting all the theory into practise - Everythings an experiment !

Okay so managed to get the box apart and get the diff drilled out:

Super happy with my new throttle body that arrived, Its an 84mm one from a V8 so will be fabricating my own plenium in the upcoming weeks:

My package arrived from USA (Finally) after uk customs being (inserts word here) a pain? So finally can get on with the engine

Old crownwheel now pressed onto Peloquin's differential. Cant wait to test out this quality engineered bit of kit.

Bosch 1000cc Injectors should feed enough for my power goals

So time to tackle the box selector forks, A PAIN in the ass for many, however I am to eliminate the issues with selecting as I have some designs for my new shifter mech, So want the box super notchy and as healthy as possible.

Punching out the old pins, Drilling out to 17/64" and tapping with M8 x 1.25

Thats all for now folks, Have sent the block off to be bored, honed and faced up, and the head is off on tuesday for valve seat cutting, guide installation, honing and head skimming. Things are finally moving along again.

                Many thanks !

So had a call today from the fella I use for machining and said it had been done already, a week earlier than I had imagined! For anyone that needs anything from engine rebores to full on engine balancing ( and live near Bristol / Gloucestershire ) go to country engineering in Oldbury. Cracking job isn't even the word, incredibly skilled and been in the game for years. Couldn't be happier with the finish !
I managed to get back from work and get a little more done, gave the block it's first paint with some Por15 I had from one of my previous engines I built, waste not want not, plus I love the stuff really worth the money.

Have the block a prep which took a bit of work

Also a nice comparison between new vs old. Possibly a little difference.....!

I can't even begin to say how pleased I am with The quality of the parts, will have some detailed pictures when I have time to grab the DSLR out !

                  Thanks again guys

Been a little lazy with updates, as I have been breaking another car for spares, works been mad and finally had a little time over the bank holiday to get the garage sorted, buy some more tools ( TOOL DROOL, Your only as good as your tools remember) and get a little more accomplished on the engine.

Diff finally built and ready to be dropped in its new home.

Take one large port inlet manifold

                          Hack it up

And basically, make one hell of a mess !

Moving along to checking tolerances and gapping the rings, 17thou top, 19thou bottoms. These were gapped to the absolute T.. the more anal you are with building your engine, the stronger and better it shall be.. Or so I keep telling myself haha.

                          [IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/Butch-gti/IMG_3276.jpg[IMG]

Also spent some time designing up a custom fully throw adjustable shifter mech. Im only 26, and pretty awful with computer designing so a friend of mine is mocking it up in CAD, as im more of a pen and paper kinda guy.. Haha

Thats all for now folks, until more parts arrive this week !

                          Thanks again

So its been a few weeks again, been so busy with all background things that you get wayleighed with, Anyways onwards and upwards.

                            PICTURE TIME.

First things first, Had an 04' clio hanging about and needed to get rid of it for space. Hmm what to do?

                            IMG]http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v620/Butch-gti/Car%20bits/700DE46C-B4AA-4080-9091-3DAE7838DA31.jpg[IMG]

Time to get the crank pegged

                            Cut to length

                            No brainer really... isnt it?

Found this old bad boy crank tool I smashed together in few mins from a few years back, and its lasted this long ?!

Inspired by Breaking Bad, I decided to start cooking some... stuff. CHEMISTRY rocks..

Onto the next, toughest bit yet. I would say im pretty OCD in regards to clenliness and this oil staining just irritated the hell out of me, not to meantion it looked aweful too I just wanted it gone. Tried every product on the market, Then something sprang on me...

                            Yep, these things were rotton.

I really... need to make an effort with taking some more nice pictures.

                            lol
