I could'nt think of a better name for this, so just calling her Lindsay
Picked up this 72 Bug acouple years ago from a neighbor. He bought it about 11 years earlier and it just sat in the back of his garage intending to restore it. He picked up a 73 Standard, and a 65 Bug in the time being, I started to express interest until he bought a VW Bus so he needed room. We rolled it out and pushed it down to my house.
He had it mostly stripped right after he bought it, so I had some work to do, this being my first old aircooled car.
When it rolled into my garage...

11 years of dust...

So stripped ugly interior, no fenders, no bumpers, missing lots of parts and not much hope...
Starting the retro restore...the plan for the car was to be alittle ratty, alittle classic and to be slammed on the pan.
Being this the first Bug I've ever actually touched or worked on, it started simple...cleaning and detailing...

Many changes starting to take shape in the interior...

Homemade door panels...

Finished panels in houndstooth, stripped carpet...

Then started the headliner...

More on that later...my neighbor went out to California on vacation and I had him look for some used 60's fenders. I always intended on making the car look older as I prefer the styling and shape of the early 60's Bugs.

Ok, back to the interior...

More old parts, 60's bumpers w/ overriders

Pear Mirrors, more 60's

Back inside...

Finally laying paint...

Jump ahead, and got the interior painted, headliner in...

Then the project shifted to alittle different style. I started seeing some other Bugs and I was really digging the Brick red interiors. Then it turned into making the interior look alittle more OEMish...
Carpet is in...

Next game plan was seats and short-backs....I ordered some TMI covers for a 64 and figured we'd just make them fit...the rear seats are a direct fit, just pulled the old covers and put the new covers on...

Snooker ball drilled and threaded and matching ebrake...

More dash work...early cigarette dumpster repainted, and found a ivory oh shit handle that was wide enough to fit in the holes on the dash. Radio delete panel made and painted, and did the chrome dash strip to add alittle more retro to it.

Annnd, more 60's parts, ditching the rear hood and apron.

Midway...

That was last fall before it got stored in the garage until spring...then in spring, more work started...finished the front seat backs and recovered. Alot of work but totally work the effort. Especially since I'm after a 60's look. New door cards showed up and look soo much better then those dark houndstooth ones.
