  • I thought I'd do something like fit the new grille today.

    Toyota says No...

Fucking grille doesn't fit coz there is a minor difference between the headlights of different spec Crowns.

        • Underspoilers; where and how much are you getting one? Would be much appreciated if you could point me in the direction of one!

also, cannot wait to see this rolling.

          • So today I was pondering the Grille dilemma...
The damn thing won't fit, and I can't modify it to fit either.
The only way it would fit, is to swap over to the complete JDM front end including the lights and guards.

This would be quite an expensive exercise as those things are not available locally and I would need to import everything from Japan.

So I came to the conclusion that I will need to alter my concept design and sticking with the bland stock Aus spec Crown front end just wouldn't do...

I will be using some bits off my spare parts car to build a Shark Nose

The underspoiler is something that should only ever be used on the pre-90s cars that are slammed on the ground.

I really don't want them becoming just a "stance" thing, so unless the car you plan to mount one on meets such criteria, I can not reveal my sources.

its pre 90's, and generally cool, :P though its cool if you dont! I will keep digging, I will find one eventually that isnt worth and arm and a leg

EDIT: Also, so down for sharknose; will be magnitudes of cool. WHEN this is finished, im so roadtripping from brisbane just to be in its presence.

                    • Gathered up some motivation today to work on the car and thought I have to slam this bitch...

Took out the shocks and tried to push the arms down hoping the spring would fall out, but no luck...

No spring compressors at hand and ragin hard, coz I tried leveraging and etc to try to get them out with no luck.

Was pacing back and forth in the garage trying to figure something out and spotted some tie-down straps.

                      DIY spring compressors

Still took a fair bit of effort to get the fuckers out.

Proceeded to remove the other side and unbolt the bump stops.

Chucked one 15x12 -75 on the left and a 15x9 -15 on the right, so I could be test fitting both at the same time.

Lowered the car onto some blocks of wood and realised that the car was actually sitting on the jack handle and I can't pull the jack out... And neither can I move the handle to jack it back up...

And I have no other jack anywhere other than possibly a scissor jack....

Lucky enough I got one of the bigger stumps of firewood blocks and jammed a 2x4 under the car standing on the other end using it as a lever to get some weight off the jack.
That gave me enough to start making tiny movements with the jack handle trying to pump it back up. Actually managed to get the car back in the air and had to add some bigger wood blocks under the wheels for test fitting.

Apparently 15x9 -15 are perfect fitment on stock as fuck guards.

                      Amazing fitment coinscidence

The 15x12 on the other side had a bit more low as the wood blocks were higher and most of the weight was resting on that side.
The resulting low is the spring mount of the swing arm touching the spring mount on the chassis and what seemed like the swing arm touching the chassis rail as well.
But everything else seemed to have cleared fine, even the swaybar.

                      Easy 9cm of poke

After double checking everything a few time to find if there are any other areas that will need modification to make these wheels fit, I chucked the bump stops back in and put her on stockies to drive her back in the garage.

I'll need to investigate the front fitment next time. So stay tunned

I guess I will need like 15x9 -30 for the tame Kyusha Kai look once the guards are rolled and flared

No slamming of the FG will ever happen.... I promised myself that when I bought it...
I need at least 1 sensible daily car that can tow a car trailer to the track.

Not that I've never looked at coilovers/bags and 19s for it....
