Growing bored with the E30, I felt the need to jump into something more involved. Something that would push myself mechanically and force me to learn. I learned a lot on the E30 but seeing as I did everything I wanted to do it, I felt it time to move on. I started looking at older American stuff. I kicked around the idea of doing a shoebox Ford but chopping the top would be way beyond my abilities. I saw what Hale's Speed Shop was pumping out and was really liking the old bagged trucks. I started looking for a 60-63 C10s.
I decided I wanted to get a 63 C10. I think it has all the best features of the early trucks and the best features of the later trucks all in one. It is the first year with independent front suspension and the last year of the wrap around windshield. It is also the only year that this grille as well. I had a nice little list of what I wanted. Original as possible, straight as possible, little to no structural rust, SWB, and fleetside. I had been searching my local Craigslist everyday for a few months and it popped up I got it about a four months ago from down in Macon GA. It was a one owner up until October of last year. It was used as a farm truck its whole life and was used to haul hay and take trash to the dump. 59,000 supposedly original miles. Only a couple pea sized holes in the floor boards and no body filler on the truck. LWB and resprayed but I figured it was about as close to my list as I was gonna find for how close it was. They parked it in 2003 and it sat until it was sold to the second owner. The second owner got it and did a little tune up to it (brakes, speedo cable, plugs, wires, distributor, fuel filter) and lost motivation. He had it in the corner of his backyard which was mostly just a mud pit since it was raining all day. The battery was dead so he brought his truck around to give it a jump. Ended up getting his truck stuck and a couple hours and several stuck vehicles later, we got it out of the backyard. Went for a test spin and everything was well so I bought it. Riding at night with broken headlight adjusters, no seatbelts, no power steering, no power brakes, no taillights, constantly losing power, and wiper blades that just smear water definitely made for an interesting ride.
I will get some better pictures when I get it out of storage. It is sitting in a barn at the moment.

My plan is to leave the exterior how it is and leave the interior how it is (aside from recovering seat, dynamat, and carpet.) Bag it. Shorten the bed (I want to do a mid bed. I think the long is too long and the short is too short). LQ9 motor and T56 trans. Hoping for 400ish wheel. Want to completely modernize it with the appearance of being old and run down.
Anyways, down to business. Been just trying to keep it mobile since I have had it so I can move it where I need to. But its about time to tear it down and start the actual build.
It has been poorly resprayed at some point so I was doing some research on removing paint to get back to the original paint and evidently it is pretty popular in the VW crowd on the old aircooled stuff. I went and bought some special stripper stuff and gave it a go. It is Klean-Strip Aircraft peeler. Intended for removing a layer at a time.

Very happy with the results and not very labor intensive at all, so going to do the whole truck. Gonna have original paint/patina and that makes me very happy. Broke my heart it was repainted but its hard to find something with nice original patina. Hoping it all looks good underneath the crappy paint. Only thing is you wont really know until you're fully committed. Only crappy thing is that I need about 20 cans of it and its 10 bucks a can. A small price to pay to get back to how it was though.
Been busting ass on my garage to get it home:
It is too long to fit in there normally so I needed to clear it all out to go in sidewayz for dayz:
As Bob Saget once said, there is shit everywhere.
So after many hours, looking like it is about time to bring her home.
I will take a proper shoot of it soon and hopefully have it down to the frame in the next few weeks so stay tuned. And please pester me to make updates since I know I will be lazy about it.
