  • Well worn Subaru

So after the devastation of my previous car I made the jump to something "sensible." The Z3 took a rigorous beating in 50k miles and never got the treatment and attention it deserved.
    So, enter the 04 WRX.

Do keep in mind, I have a serious drinking habit that needs funding.
That means between it and bills, I is broke lol

This is how she looked the day I bought her.
I,know, I know. Its been modified. "build it, dont buy it"
Im all to aware lol but for the price, I made no argument.

Dont mind the cell pics. My camera suffered a beating and I need car parts first.
Anyhow, the car had pros and cons.

    Pros:
Carbon fiber hood and trunk (not to excited for this)
    Hellas
    Nice Milled Shift knob
    Tint
    HKS Turbo-back
    WORX BOV
    3" Aluminum racing radiator
    Megan Spring on unnkown struts

    Cons:
Minor oil leek on the west side valve cover
    Fouled EGT sensor
Runs rich from time to time
    shudder in reverse
pop in right front half axle
    headlights suck d***
    ZIPTIES eer'where
failing clutch (pretty sure the current one could pass for a ginger snap cookie)
    awful/skinny wheels
unknown boost controller, like, idk where its even controlled from
nice A pillar gauges, that someone never installed right

Some of this has been taken care of.

First order of business: remove plasti-dip from wheels and bumper

    Boom. Done.

Second: remove gauges till proper one can be ordered/installed correctly.

Then, jerry-rig/zip tie the functioning boost gauge to steering column.

Yea, I know, thats way too cool right?
    I think not.

General maintenance came next starting with THE WORST PART OF OWNING A BOXER ENGINE

Missing some blood after that one. Didnt know one could throw their voice out saying the word c***sucker. Did the oil, trans, filters, a few leaky lines, rad fluid, brake fluid brake.

I would love to bore you with the gruesome details of that exhilirating upkeep, but it might be best saved for later.

Even took the time before maintenance to pressure wash this dirty f*****'s engine.
Also adding the obligatory ABA to my filthy top mount.

    Future plans:

Respray with WRB, including the CF parts and skirts
    rear valence
    Front lip
TE37 reps (I KNOW) 17x9, with some adapters
    FMIC
    D2 coils
    VF52 turbo
    injectors
    Nexus tablet dash install

    I'll be back.

I have suddenly started to want one of these real bad. I'm either getting older and want a sensible car that I can drive all the time and not worry about and that is safe; or I want to slide down gravel roads sideways.

Maybe what you really need is an A4 wagon then

        I'll leave this here....

OP I dig the cleanup - it's nice to see that all the weird mods (bumper colors/wheels) were all plasti-dip. An easy fix to get it all back.

Either way you work that wagon, its gonna be sexy
It being one of the few wagons my heart yerns for and all.

As for the "sensible part". It is somewhat sensible. 4 doors, big trunk, air bags and fairly good on gas. Could theoretically be a comfortable family car/grocery getter with a serious wild side lying under the hood.

Last car I had had two seats, not one air bag, leaky roof, next to no trunk and an old 1.9 that needed rebuilt.

This scoob thing makes my d*** hard everyday.

            Dream big son

So this happened. I think all fender liners are absolute S***. Good thing it happened when I wasnt on the interstate.

These here are the reps. Yes reps. REPS. figured id get that out of the way. I caught a lot of s*** for those. (edit from earlier, they are 17x8.5)

They once were on the Z and it had..well...a bit of camber.

They are a bit meatier. I like. This is the front wheel of the Z.

Need this. Have to get 5x100 to 5x120 adapters. The 20mm aren't expensive atleast.

Think I might have these painted copper.

                  And the Z peekin.

Nah, they are 5x100. The TE37 reps are 5x120 and fit my old Z3.

Not much has gotten done what with the s*** weather in east TN.
Got up underneath the car to inspect the rotten half axle only to discover the drivers side also has play in it. Damn.
Atleast them things are cheap and easy to get to.

So besides being drenched and sweating like a whore in church, I went mental with glue and bandana.

Fitted the Nexus in its new home. Touch screen goodnessssssss.

and thought I'd tout my killer boost gauge/zip tie job lol

Thats about it. Soon come the wheels. Adapters have been ordered. Paint has been bought.
Biggest problem? I know NO ONE who has a g****** fender roller and Im going to need one.
                            So the search continues.

So, this car is running 10 psi. Controlled by...I actually don't know what. From research it looks like a stock boostcontoller/bleed valve or what have you. But 10? Ive been lead to believe they sit neatly at 6-8psi when stock.

Anyways, the cars AFR is off the charts. It moves so very much. anywhere between 14.9:1 to 23:1 once. which I'm lead to believe is, well, bad. Running SUPER RICH when read through reading the "narrow band."

Should I go with a wide band or a new EGT?
                              Cleaned the MAF.
Checked the injectors ( a pain in the ass job ) and they are stock. Figured some PO might have swapped them for a higher cc and didnt compensate for the higher flow/volume. Also ran FI cleaner through them just in case.
Did a vac/pressure test for boost leaks and turned up none.

Most I've been told is if the stock EGT is bad, it will throw off the AFR easily.

Anyone else have any ideas of what could cause this?
                              Any thoughts are appreciated!
