  • Another boring update.

New pedal rubbers. Never had an accelerator one. Came in ford packaging but had VW Audi moulded into the rubber. Plus part number for anyone interested.

Also just had to refit the exhaust. For some reason the back box didn't want to stay attached. And i Fitted a new centre air vent as I noticed in the pics of my cup holder that its bent down for some reason?? Not acceptable.

    • I made a new cupholder. Because I managed to brake the hinge on the other one when I was making it. So the first one is up for grabs if anyone wants it.

And my original stereo came back from being refurbished. No cheap at all.

Amazing how much the equaliser makes a difference to the sound. Need a Votex console now to fit it.

      • Got a couple of little updates, Been playing with the heated seats.
I bought a universal kit to use with my mk2 switch. But turned out that the resistances on the switch and kit were completely different. So that wasn't possible.
So I got a good deal on some mk3 seats. Bought them to have the heating elements and relays off of them. But unfortunately the elements are unusable really. The bottom pads are ok but the back ones are beyond. Didn't burn the seats at all though. (for sale in the for sale section)

Been told they aren't that hot anyway So going to use the mk3 relays and some universal carbon elements. Nice and toasty.

So basically I bought the seats just for these.

And modified the mk3 heated seat loom to work with the mk2 switch. Just swapped 2 wires over.

        Before

        After

Also got a relay 99 programable wiper relay. As it does get a bit annoying in this weather.

                  • Well I have finally done it. Manned up and ripped the recaros apart to fit the heating elements. Thought I'd crack on with it before we get hot weather again. lol

Firstly I took them apart and took all the staples and peeled the glue off of the middle section covers, While I had them apart I gave the subframes a good clean and hoovered the covers.

                    Offered up the heating elements.

Perfectly sized for recaro bases. I had to cut holes in them to be able to clip the covers back on. But since they are carbon heating elements they don't mind this and still work fully. I tested after doing the first one.

On the drivers seat I found a seam that had come unstitched so out came the needle and thread. Obviously hadn't hovered them yet in this picture. lol

I could then refit the covers to the foam with a bit of contact adhesive

Because I am using these universal heating pads - (Click me) And the original mk3 heating pads have a temp sensor in the bottom pad to cut the power when they get too hot I had to trick the relay into thinking it was still there. 12k resistor did it for me on the wires for the temp sensor.
These pads have inbuilt cut off switches so they don't get too hot. So I wasn't worried about bypassing the original one. I almost tried to keep the sensors from the mk3 pads to put with the new ones but they are known to be temperamental.

These pads work A LOT better wired in parallel than in series like the mk3 pads are.

Obviously I tested the pads would work with the mk3 setup before I ripped my seats apart. If anyone is planning on doing this and has any questions, feel free to ask.

I defiantly prefer these pads than using mk3 ones. Less chance of them burning my seats since they are carbon instead of a hot wire. And they are a lot warmer! Very nice in this weather!

                    • Awesome job on the seats. Not sure I'd have the balls to rip apart some original Recaros, lol.

                        • Credit to sicklyorange on the mk2 owners club for this. Shamelessly stole his idea. I had some carpet left over from making my sub box so covered the back of my seats to cover up scratches and holes from other peoples stereo installs.
Much better now. Don't even need to stick it on.

Also supporting Chinas economy I bought this headlight upgrade loom for £6 shipped

                          • Top work mate! Looks really good. Finding one of those 16 valvers here where I live is absolutely Impossible now! The ones that pop up for sale once in a while are so expensive, it just makes things worse haha. One day I will own one of these little rockets haha.

                            • dude your blue passat and this mk2 = sex. completely read both of the threads and love the detail on all of em. VW/Audi can never figure out cupholders for shit! The passat build, you inspired me to get my interior dyed too, just have to order the correct color and all the goods that come with it. Probably going to take my stock black interior and do a brick red/black with it to have a sporty oem look. This green gti though > makes me want to get one.

The prices are shooting up here as well. They do seem very expencive in america when ive looked. Even really shabby looking ones.

Thanks man! It's all in the small details. Red would look good! If I had kept the Passat I was considering re doing it a dark red.
