  • So, here is some more info on the latest purchase for the Audi.

Had been thinking for some time this project- of going RS4 wide, and thought I'd make a start. There is no hurry. Just gathering parts when there is the chance. It is not a cheap project by any means, so I will take my time on this one.

Here is what RS4 wide means

So, these are the said oem fenders, brand new

Cheers for now, update to follow on the work done today in the interior

    • So, I had some plans to remove some more weight as I said before. Sat this evening, late after work to get some work done.

My machinist friend was also there to help, hello Thanos

Started by quickly removing the interior trim

      Centel console

      Pics show the progress . . .

Out goes the beautiful dash to get out of the way, to give access for more work

      Hmmmm seems familiar

The custom shift knob also went out

Removed miscellanious stuff to gain access for the Heat matrix to be removed

But no luck. It was hard. I mean frustrating hard.

      But . . .

      It came out, leaving this

I also had to remove some pipes from here, and now have to make a connection between them, to make a closed circuit again

And also have to seal this

I love my work bench a bit more tonight

All in all, a very difficult project if one wants to remove it without braking pieces. Glad we took our time, well worth it.

More work to come - cheers

      • Did some more work when I had the chance, mostly removed all the firewall insulation, which is very thick and very heavy considering what it is.

        Leaving me with this

If I am to face heat problems, I can go gold tape on the engine side, which I intended to either way at some point.

Still lots of tar, and insulation to remove, prior to installing the dash back on

What is more, I was thinking of not doing it, until cage was here . . . we shall see.

One more thing that needs my attention, is the two heater coolant lines, one going in the cabin, and the one leaving .

My friend, machined these end caps for me

But have not decided yet if I will install these, or join the two coolant lines with a "U" joint to close the coolant circuit.

        Cheers

        • So found some time today to do some more work on the interior.

Talked with Wiechers and they said that the cage will be ready in about 2-3 weeks. So I have plenty of time for some more things I want to do.

Removed the seats first, both of them

And then removed the carpet as well.

Having removed the OEM tar sheets for the last race, I was faced with their remaining bits, that back then I had not the time to remove them.

          It was ugly. Really ugly.

Then, came this. Chemical Guys Tarminator. An awesome product, yet again to the rescue

          Doing its work

          Two passes, and . . .

          Driver's side

          Dwell

          Another pass

          Getting somewhere

          Another before

          During

          And almost done

There is a a line as you can see, where there is super strong glue, and I didnt want to go for that, although Kostas that was helping me not only with photos but with tar too, wanted to take that off too.

          Here is a kinda 50:50

Then kept on the passenger's side too, and almost finished it. Ran out of tarminator sadly, so kept going with pump gas - lol.

here is a video of what was happening in the garage

          • Another issue on my to do list, was to do something about the coolant hoses going to the heater radiator inside the cabin.

At first my friend Thanos machined some end caps as shown before

However I left this idea, and went for a "U" joint of the two hoses

            bought some of these

And some straight aluminum pipe of the same diameter, and then, came this

Left it pretty huge, to cut it to my needs aftewards

            measure twice, cut once

Removed the previously installed end caps

            New T-Clamps

            Came out great I think

            Cheers

            • Well I was interested in this but now I am signing off from this thread because of racecar. Good luck with your work. It is good, just not my cup of tea anymore. Be careful on track!

Thank you, however if I were you, I'd look this again.
This aint going where you think it is.

Clubsport theme, is different than Racecar.

                But hey, you know better

                Cheers

                • I love my CF mirrors.

                  However . . .

The enemy of good, is better. So:

                  Removed this

                  Both out

                  Insulated with Tesa fabric tape

                  Leaving me with this

Which I like very much actually

                  And then, these were ordered

The universal set, and we will make templates of our own to bolt them on

                  Cant wait

                  Cheers

                      • Well it has been a while since I last ordered something for the car - or not.

                        So this got un-installed

                        Leaving this, like this

Soon to suck air, through this

Hello headlight air induction, once again

                        • So, after the AC Removal in the past, and the Heater Unit removal lately, there were some holes in the firewall, that needed some attention.

                          Made a template with carton

Thought about aluminium, either painted of wrapped, however I thought another alternative that would be fun

Used this to avoid any leaks, awesome product for oem quality work

                          yeap, it's plexiglass alright

Then continued to the second spot, which was harder

                          Again, carton template

                          Plexiglass first mock-up

                          And secured in place

                          Inside

                          Engine Side

Then, the place from where the coolant lines for the heater went inside the cabin.

                          Rubber seal

                          Plexiglass delete

                          Secured in place

                          All done

                          Cheers

                          • So, there have been some updates to show the past days.

Quality tools are never too many

New OEM front floormats in black

And a new package delivered - a really nice one

You know what they say about objects in mirrors

                            Well it's true

Also got these from the post office for the daily, so it was indeed a mirror day today.

                            Cheers

                            • Careful with an open impeller, even the tiniest rock can damage it and take bits of engine with it.

                              • So, lost no time, and thought I had to make an effort to fit the mirrors by myself.

Started by trying several templates, until I seemed to get it right

                                testing with the mirror mounted

                                Seems we are getting somewhere

                                Passenger side done as well

Time to paint them in my professional heated paint-booth - or not - lol

                                Sanded

                                Primed

                                Let's get these on

                                Passenger's side

So this a general pic of how it looks

but I am waiting for Kostas to take some proper pics, cause I was too tired and out of time to even make an attempt for it. besides he will take better pics either way, so why bother, lol.

                                Cheers guys
