Sooooooo yeah, im back from the dead.
Some of you might remember my old te72 rotbox wagon project. ever since i got rid of that car ive bounced around between cars and could not settle on one i felt was worthy of building.
finally almost 2 years later i found one.
keep in mind this car is not being built to win shows, or be glamorous. just to be loud, mean, and generally piss people off. i love oldschool shit and rear drive was a must.
enter the 88 volvo 744 turbo intercooler.
picked it up locally for 400 bucks. after driving it for a while i decided, this was the new project.
Game on.
Day 1:

rough running, broken tailights, corner lights, turn signals, trashed interior, flat tire, and a general feeling of neglect.
first order of business was to get the lights sorted so i could legally drive it.

new front end cleaned up.

new tail light upper halves tinted out.
next up was making it just a litttttlllleee louder. as any of you know from my last project, im a fan of fucking loud side exit exhaust.
hippie blaster complete.

no mufflers, 3" turbo back. factory cat for now...
threw on a roof rack and zombies ahead magnet i got from my gf
and gave it a wash.

ordered a steering wheel hub adapter for an old grant wheel i had kicking around.
also added a weighted shift knob.

checkered the mirror in rememberance of my te72 R.I.P.

then decided to drop my headliner to fix the sunroof and redo it in suede. i was in for a surprise

mouse condo headliner had to go. upon taking it out it literally desintigrated into 1000 peices.

At this point i took a step back and thought to myself, maybe im taking the wrong approach to this car. i looked at the haggard interior and nicely patinaed exterior, and thought, fuckit, racecar style. i want a stripped down, mean as hell, loud, fast, and low old volvo. this is where the project really begins.

Fueled by satan, the ambition kicked into high gear.
Step 1 was to figure out a wheel and tire setup. volvo has the stupidest 5x108 bolt pattern, so wheel options are slim. i know i wanted deep dish, wide wheels, but again, this is a super cheap budget build.
so i went wiiiitthhhh:

16x7 Volvo factory xc90 steelies. nabbed em for 75 bucks for the set. et 48 on these just wouldnt do.
a few hours later...

centers cut out, cleaned up, flipped around, and...

primered and awaiting final truing and welding. final offset is -1.

keep in mind the suspension is stock right now. thats coming up.
boredom continued as the wheels are being finished, so i thought...hmmm...duckbill? i think yes.
cardboard template:

on the car:

this will be made out of 1/8th and 1/4 inch aluminum next week.
Now that ive caught everyone up. heres what the future holds:
i got a local guy that has a wrecked 740 wagon. he has full TME springs, bilstein HD's, IPD 30mm front and rear sways, and a front big brake kit. he wants my stock parts and 100 bucks, so look for updates soon! i will try to update day to day. still have a long journey ahead.
all for now.
