  • Hand delivered friday where all the wheel hubs parts that I'd sent away for hard anodising!!!....gave alot of thought on the colour of the bits, go bright (red wheel nuts etc...).... go subtle looking.... in the end I knew stain black would be the right choice.... going mega understated :-) pretty set on the wheels being powder coated silver

Just a little teaser...... need to go and find a massive socket to fit the nuts and a monster torque wrench! LOL

    • I somehow would tend to say this is pretty 2004... but its just way cooler than all those bad executed examples

          • So another week another update!!

This week is a juicy one in the shape of a billet aluminum sump for the S62! One of the biggest hurdles to overcome with fitting an S62 into an E36 is the sump fowling the cross member. People have gotten around this by either lowering the subframe on spacers - just no. Sitting the engine REALLY far forwards in the bay - Not the greatest for weight distribution or having any room to fit radiators / fans etc... OR modifying the cross member to move the steering rack backwards - bumpsteer! So dry sump it is.... VAC Motorsport seem to be the usual go to buys, they make the sump and complete kit but I wanted to put together my own set up LOL

At the beginning of the year I stumbled across a guy (Ade @ SolutionEngineers.com) making a sump for his s62 that was going into an old Ford Capri race car he was building.....pinged off a message to him to see if he'd be interested in making one for me (don't ask, don't get!) and to my delight he agreed! :-D

He gave me the necessary dimensions so I could order the slabs of 6000 series ali and got them sent directly to him. I was in no real rush, a few months past and I got a teaser picture of the CNC programme being test run in wax....

Plenty of emails exchanged to check progress etc...and this week I had the email I'd been waiting for! It was ready and being courier down to me

So 10kg's of insanely good looking billet aluminum S62 dry sump-ness!! He is in the process of getting himself set up to start manufacturing these on a larger scale so if you're interested drop me a pm with your details and I'll past them on :-)

So this means I can get this mounted to the engine and start making engine mounts!!!!!!!!!!

                  • On to this weeks update...

Over the last few weeks I've been working on smoothing the engine bay :-D not a small job so armed with the welder and tin snips I started to stick some metal together to fill all the unwanted holes.... I didn't want to go totally smoothed out, I want to keep some of the seam lines for example where the strut towers join the inner wings and the ribs & raised sections on the inner wings and firewall to me it keeps it (crazy as it sounds) alittle more factory looking LOL

Then it was onto a modification I've wanted to do to the e36 for YEARS!.... it might divide opinions but whatevers LOL... cue the single wiper conversion!!

On the coupe the centre wiper isn't central so I had to fabricate a new position of the wiper spindle then make new brackets to mount the wiper motor after I'd modified the linkage, cut and welded the wiper arm to the exact length as well :-)

With the new spindle position mocked up it was time to remake the scuttle panel as I plan not to use a scuttle panel trim

There's a couple areas I might revisit but the majority of the works done!....onto making the engine mounts for the s62...

                    • HUGE day saturday!!!

Was time to fit the dry sump up to the engine and get it slung in the hole! The mornings starting point...

Removed the existing sump was just a matter of removing 50,000 M10 bolts and various solenoids etc.... so with the new dry sump bolted in place (no gaskets, torqued bolts blah blah....) it was time to get in centred, square and mockup engine mounts made.

Seems to be the way these days, I just like to crack on instead of take a million pictures.... so what we have here is the S62 in its final position, nice and far back and as low as possible, sat on a pair of fabricated mock up engine mounts....

The mounts where pulled out the car and hopefully this week I'll be making a jig for them to start making some nice sexy final mounts....after that, get the gearbox mount modified and fitted, then custom proshaft, while all that's going on I'm trying to finalize getting the dry sump pump and all filters, tanks and fittings ordered!!!

                              • Been a little quiet for the last couple weeks but things have still been happening!! :-)

Been trying to bankrupt myself by ordering all the parts for the dry sump system - pump, oil tank, breather tank, filters etc... <------- short list, bloody expensive though!!

Actually on the car, I got the gearbox mount sorted so the gearbox is fixed in place so that's mean I could fabricate the new shift linkage and mounting arm, its based on using OE parts bought from BMW Saturday morning, chopped up and re-made Saturday afternoon LOL, crap picture but its a nice milestone! A popular mod for the e39 boys is using the shift arm from a 645 so I ordered one of and now the throw of the gearbox is crazy small! Excellent mod!!

As the gearbox is fixed, I've measured up for the propshaft and will be dropping my M3 prop off with the front section of the M5 prop (that came with the engine) to have a hybrid made and balanced up.

Still loads more than needs to be ordered! All these posts on the interwebz talking about s62 swaps into an e36 really dont scratch the tip of the iceberg as to whats really necessary!
