  • Project 1989 Mustang GT Convertible

My plans for my car are to have a good stance, and be as hellaflush as possible, while still being able to maintain functionality as a daily driver and drift car.

P.S. I paid $500 for the car in running/driving condition.

Here's how I got the car:

Cleaned it up some (no money spent so far):

Fixed up the interior with leather seats from an 01 and fur, that was one of the first things I did:

Some body work, Rustoleum spray paint, and a wing:

Last weekend (1.5" longer control arms, 5 lug swap in front, heim joint rod ends, cut springs):

I have Koni Yellow's (for the front) that just came in the mail, along with coil sleeves and springs. The cut springs are only temporary. I may keep them in the back though until I get independent rear suspension.

The back is still 4 lug with stock rims, so it looks kinda funny. I ran out of money, so the back is gonna have to wait until next paycheck.

Wheels are XXR 502, 18"x8.5 35mm offset 225/40/18. I have 18"x9.5 35mm offset for the rear, but they have to wait until next paycheck to go on the car.

I am in need of fender rolling and pulling. I'd like to sell the 8.5 front rims for 9.5's all around.

        You added the fur?
I don't get it, but then again it's a pony...

Yes, I added the fur. I like it, although every mustang owner would disapprove, lol.
I'm not really going for traditional mustang styling.

Here's what's going in the front once I get time...

Stang coilover kit? Did you get the top hat with the bearing on it to prevent binding? If you're interested i have them (TH) for sale for cheaper than summitracing

Yeah, I have the bearings and i have caster/camber plates. They're Koni single adjustable struts, with Maximum Motorsports coil-over kit and caster camber plates, and QA1 350lb 9" springs.

I really need to re-route my exhaust because it scrapes on everything, lol... I'll probably do that and the coilovers this weekend.

How much did you lower the car with the cut springs? I am just wondering because a lot of mustang guys keep telling me if I lower my car too much it will handle really bad. I have an 88 fox hatchback with maximum motorsports coil-overs front and back. Right now I have it set at a two inch drop but want to go lower....

Fuck yeah. Love 5.0's. Waiting for the right Notch right now.

Keep posting some updates and don't let the thread die.

I have no idea how much it's lowered... My cats are an inch off the ground though... lmao. My air diffuser under the front bumper scrapes the ground when I push the brakes too hard lol (it's 1/2" off the ground). I cut like 3 coils from the front and 2 from the back (I think, maybe 4 and 3. I'll check tomorrow)... My back is an inch higher than the front.

The car really doesn't handle bad, except for the bumpsteer which is minimal and doesn't really bother me (I have a bumpsteer kit, just not adjusted. I threw it on to get the car driving). I am going to fix it when I get a chance though. I do have sn95 control arms and spindles though, but fox length ones shouldn't handle any worse. Only thing the control arms gave me is a bunch of camber, which doesn't affect the ride from what I've noticed. It's a whole lot more responsive in steering.

I think I'm going to raise it 1/2"-1" in the front when I put the coilovers on, because it's starting to get annoying scraping on EVERYTHING.... lol

I was drifting tonight and ran straight over a slightly raised spot in the road and it hit my k-member and launched the front up off the ground... I thought I broke something, but I drove 30 miles after and it was fine. I'm putting it on the lift tomorrow to see what all got hit.

Keep up the good work, I have an 89 gt as well and I love this car. I'll be watching what you do with this. Let me know how you like the coilover setup, I'm planning on doing this soon as well and want to get others opinions on the ride/adjustability of them.

High five for doing up a Fox...I don't really get the fur either but whatever, it is your car.

Also interested to see what you think about the coil over sleeve deal - I have an '84 LX.
