hahah crashing into that curb was a sign that you have no idea what the F*ck your doing! its people like your dumbass that makes us fox owners look bad
I can't hit potholes anyway..... I'd rip off my bumper and bend my radiator support lmao. Even speed bumps are a struggle. There are some that I get stuck on, and then I have to rock the car and push it, lol.
But seriously, the cut that I put in my control arm doesn't weaken it THAT much, to the point that it just bends like that.... Remember, I was going 40 when this curb jumped out at me......
There is no noticeable flexing... It still handles extremely well. It did not harm the handling characteristics at all.
I may be ignorant, but my car's safety is perfectly sound.
....
I know the dangers of everything done to my car, and there's no way that my control arms would bend even if I somehow gripped a turn at 80mph and caught 2Gs of force. It's 3/16 inch stamped steel that's holding 700in/lbs less force than it's designed to hold, give me a break....
The engineers did a shitty job on the suspension design anyway, using 1960's geometry. The structural integrity designed into the arms was unnecessary overkill the minute my coilovers went on.
Sorry for the shitty pics, it was dark and I'm using a 5 year old camera phone.
I had the shitty stock wheels on because I had yet to convert to 5 lug in the rear. I just did yesterday and now I have some shitty 18" Motegi's. I'm waiting for some CCW knock-offs to come in the mail. BTW, nothing on my thread is about bragging, it's to keep a journal of progress on my car.
Thanks, man. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do is prove them wrong about my control arms. I understand everyone's concern, but the stock control arm is beefy as hell, so It doesn't bother me. I'm no noob, I know about cars and safety, I'm a technician at a dealership (not trying to brag, I'm not one of those asshole techs, lol).
I'm drifting on a 3rd and 4th gear road course Sunday, so we'll all see just how strong my control arms are. (I'm bringing uncut spares in case of emergency, lol)
Thanks, I try to keep it looking decent. The top end is GT40 stuff painted black and I tucked most of the wires. I don't really like it flashy, just clean and simple.
I wish I didn't curb the one rim, because it would be on all 4. But FRSport said they don't have my rims because they're on backorder or discontinued or something. I want to get the XXR 531 ccw classic knock-off rims 18x9.5 20mm front and 19x10 35mm rear, but they're also on backorder for 4 months........ ghey... I'm gonna check with NL Motoring next paycheck.
But a 18, 19 stagger would look mean as hell IMO. I didn't realize how much bigger the rear wheel arch is than the front until I tried my front 18x9.5 35mm in the rear... It would look much more even with 19's in the back.
BTW guys, I just got my SFI approved racing harnesses in the mail today. I'm still working on fabbing the harness bar. Hopefully it'll be ready by Sunday.
Lol at all the h.aters... Everyone at the track loved my car, especially the redneck flavor, haha.
I'm really not as stupid as I sound here, people just take my shit too seriously... I have good friends that drive hondas, I'm just joking around. All you guys loved my car until the cut control arms and then you went crazy like I destroyed my car, haha. I feel safe with them, and so do my passengers, so it doesn't bother me what someone else thinks, lol. They're not gonna snap, they're cold stamped steel, if anything, they'll just bend.
I'm not retarded, I do shit right, but on a budget. I'm not some dumbass that would bolt his harnesses to the floor, lmao. Yeah I used like 1.5" small tubing to cut cost, but it's sturdy enough that I feel safe with it. If I didn't feel safe with what I was doing, I would not drive my car until I feel safe with it.
Talk shit all you want, I'm not gonna change my car because someone else doesn't like it when I like it.
Yeah, I left the swaybar off because I put it in my garage and forgot to put it back on after I changed my rack and pinion lol. I had it on the ground then I was like ah, f*ck it, lol.
People think you are an idiot because you make yourself look like an idiot. Cutting a control arm, A VITAL PART OF THE SUSPENSION, and not reinforcing it is not only moronic, its dangerous. You have no grasp of why it is dangerous, yet you seem to think you're smarter then the engineers who designed it.
The belief that you know what you are doing, when clearly you dont, is forcing me to close this thread. We cant have people that claim they know what they're doing giving others "advice". I suggest you try a model specific forum, maybe they wont laugh as hard as you.
As for your "stance", all this talk about not having money and buying replica wheels... And the fact that you stated that people were lving the redneck flavor and how many comments you get about your car in person, leads me to believe that theres one specific social group you're around/associate with.
This thread is causing the wrong kind of stir amoungst members, and we dont want ANYONE to think that this is in any way safe to do to any car.
Thanks for trying, but please dont try again.
