  • bmw e30 on bbs e30-->'90 318is

hi guys, finally decided to open a build thread for my shitbox
i'm Giulio, 24 from Milan, Italy
after selling my old car ('92 vento)

Post your build threads here! Keep us updated on what you're doing in your garage.

i bought this one, under a friend's segnalation
    it's a 1990 318is that i bought in march 2011
has got a swapped m42 from an e36 318is with approx 130000km on it, since her original m42 blew off a few months earlier i bought it.
It runs smooth, no apparent problems on it
chassis has almost 200000km in fair conditions with a little bit of rust in a few points that I almost fixed, nothing hard btw.

plans are (obviously) to slam it on the e30's i had on the vento and nothing else, maybe a few things on the engine such as a good chip, air filter and blablabla shit

    let's start with pics

    i know.
    shitty.
just like the car right now.

with my lil sailing boat on it haha

    1)works:

all discs and pads replaced, rears were impressivly cracked

brake fluid looked darker than coke

removed and changed sunroof panel, unfortunatly the previous owner cracked all the roof cables by trying to make it work not givin' a #### about all the rust inside the rails, so i have to change the whole sunroof system i've already bought almost new.

minor rust under the glass water tank

    and in the sunroof chassis

got a few more points but I think it's enough rust has been shown haha

    2)wheels:

the bbs e30 i had on the vento were 7.75 in the front and 8.25 in the rear

just bought a few days ago 6" inner barrels from bbs for the front
and 4.5" lips for the rear
final specs will be 9j in the front with 3" lips and 9.5" in the rear with 4.5" lips
    unknown offsets
    195/50 tyres

fitting test without laying the car on the ground (haven't got long bolts to make the wheel fit safely), so they will be a few mm's more inside

    'nuff wide i guess

    match with rear brakes

front with 16mm spacers because of no brakes clearance on with these wheels

    goooood

new supersprint exhaust (horrible, but mine was destroyed)

final set for the rears + bonus pic

    3)works to be done
    -remove all the rust
    -coilovers (probably jom for now)
    -find a vento/jetta 3 front lip
-fix that hell of a sunroof
    -mooooore ahead an LSD

    now

let me know what you think!

I've always wanted a set of bbs e30's on my e30.
Can't wait to see the result.

How do you plan to tuck those bbs e30's in the fenders?

Nice so far! My suggestions would be to forget about the JOM's since they suck and you'll want something better right after you put them on and to buy stock in m42 oil pans. To pull off 15's with those tires you're going to need to be very low. I'm looking forward to you doing it though.

as for tucking i think it won't be a problem, in the front i'm ok, just the rears are alil bit xtreme
i'n not even planning to widen my fenders
          let's see

          @byron
          are they so shitty?
only alternative are lowtecs or i don't know, coils on e30 are a pain in the everywhere, expecially for a vw ex owner haha
as you say, another pain will be my oil pan, gotta workout also for that
an engine lift is planned, 2 or 3 cm's

There's quite a few other options available these days actually, ranging from just as shitty to awesome. For cheap, I believe K-sports and DC's are under $1000, BC's are $1000 and Ground Controls, KW's and Broadways are all around $1600 said and done. If you're mechanically minded you should be able to build yourself a set for less then $1000.

if everything runs smoothly i will pop them on in spring!
this night i spent some time polishing the rear lips

no justice from these crappy phone pics
believe me they are dope in person

tried to fit the wheels laying it on the ground

i'll remove a bit of material from the back of the wheels like 0,8-1cm
and if not enough i'll wide the fenders not more than 5mm's

Those should fit nicely once you lower it more, you would be surprised how much e30's camber in. You could probably get them flush with a very slight pull of the fenders.

That's what i Aldo guess byron.. I can already see some camber right Now that only has some springs
Btw i'll put on One tyre and see how it works on it
Was Wondering about 185/55 but i think it would look retarded, 195/50 for sure

Also bought new Roof fabric, because of it i'll never be able to resell this car
In Italy we are full of hyper purists

Btw i think i'll take the beige version, last time was finished
                              Ikea rulez
