  • My buddy Kyle had to work again this weekend so no progress was made on the bay.

I got out to the shop on Sunday.

The calipers, carriers, and knuckles where picked up to get powdercoated.

I also traded a set of Style 5 barrels I had laying around for the battery cables from an e36. This makes moving my battery to the hatch basically plug and play.

I started off by removing my hood latches so that I can clean them up and paint them.

My friend John then told me to get back to work on the trunk setup. I got the base for the compressors and manifold cut. This fits right inside of the tool compartment under the floor.

I will be mounting the compressors and manifold once I decide what orientation I should put them. After that I will cover the board in fabric to finish it off. You won't see it once I make the false floor, but I still want it to be aesthetically pleasing.

I was hoping to work on the motor but realized that I need the cam locking tool still. I will be borrowing one next weekend. That will let me get the timing chain back on and then I can button up the timing covers and get the valve cover on as well.

This week my rotors should be showing up too=) I got my taxes done on Saturday so I will have a good chunk of money to splurge on more parts

    • What did you use to clean the calipers?

      • I media blasted them.

My Adams Rotors arrived yesterday. I just brought them to the shop to compare and ran into an issue. He sent me non-vented fronts that are also skinnier than what my stocks are. I am hoping we can get this sorted easily =)

        • Arent the rears non vented?

          • My rears are solid and the fronts should be vented. It seems that realoem lists a solid front option. I believe we miscommunicated somewhere along the line.

            • My Adams Rotors showed up Friday.

There was a miscommunication between Adam and I on the front rotors. Compacts end up having the option for either solid or vented fronts. My car ended up having the vented option, but Adam assumed it had the solid option. No biggie whatsoever. He was very happy to sort this out with me and it luckily happened at a time where they aren't needed ASAP anyways.

My buddy Greaser Kyle did more work in the bay.

We want it to be mostly symmetrical when it is done. There was an odd bump on the drivers side frame rail where a mount used to sit. It was ground off and patched.

He also patched an indent in the drivers side tower but I forgot to take an after picture=/

He ended up finishing the patch on the inside of the passenger side tower as well to rid of the tear drop shaped indent. (I forgot to picture this as well)

While this was going on, my friends and I procured the cam lock tool and made an attempt to get the timing chain on and then engine timed. I think we got it but I am too afraid to turn it over. lol

I was going to install the M44 tensioner (upgrade over the M42 tensioner) but I didn't seem to order a new seal and cover to install it=/

Other than that I have been thinking about sideskirts lately and how I don't think the ///M skirts will be good enough. I have been told e46 skirts are the same length but cannot find any good pictures of e36's running stock e46 skirts. I will be looking into my options.

I also took this picture while I was walking around #rippinshelfies

              • E46 skirts fit with some simple modifications and I've heard you have to flip them, Drivers to passenger and vice versa. Ive been looking into it lately. Ive only been able to find photos of Hamann E46 skirts on an e36... not really that good looking imo kinda jet fighterish.

                • Those are the only ones I could find too. I just want to see what normal e46 skirts would look like. A buddy of mine is bringing a set over sometime soon for me to mock up=)

                    • All seriousness, I'd think your friend learned from your hand getting diced by glass, that you guys should wear gloves more often. Man especially when you're using an angle grinder...

I don't need anybody else slowing this build down from being finished haha

Wearing gloves with power tools is actually a terrible habit. The tool will bit into the glove and cause more damage. This is especially true with saws, drills, and other rotary tools.

Ditto. If I wear gloves (wearing any kind of gloves is rare anymore) I only wear the left one, which is not the primary hold on the tool. (I always found gloves to mess up my grip.) I usually have a bucket of water to kool the metal when grinding so holding it doesn't burn my hand...( I've sort of learned)

I quit wearing gloves welding as well as any kind of synthetic or cotton will let the weld bits melt through to sit on your hand, and also prevent the hot bit from leaving your hand. No gloves the hot bits just bounce off... That still burns a little but its quick. (not till it cools sitting on your hand while you're flailing said hand to get that hot crap off!)

Edit: e46 skirts would look good methinks... Better than the Hamann ones... I like Hamann ones on the 46M

                            • It seems I am having a hard time working with Adams Rotors on getting the right ones made. For some reason, Centric doesn't show that Compacts had the option for vented front rotors unless it was a 98 or 99. Adams Rotors goes by what Centric says instead of the RealOem diagram that I supplied.

I just want to recoup some of the cost so I can get the proper fronts. Get someone to buy these please:

That sucks dude. I'm surprised they wont work with you on swapping them out.

Also those cars posted above are the ones I told you about with the e46 skirts.
