@Scotto: That is the perfect size wheel for rolled fenders on a X7, your brother just needs to buy some coil overs! and tell him not to waste his time with a 1jz, that's what I'm doing. 2jz or bust. A 1jz is just a old 2jz with more weight and less horsepower. Tell him to talk to someone at jdmsource.ca, they have quality motors. Xcessive Manufacturing makes baller X7 jz adjustable engine brackets fyi.
@Rinku: Yeah, I need to weld shut those holes from the chrome trim's clips for sure, but I don't know about extending it... might be hard to replicate on the other side...
@Pitbull: nuh uhh! I'm buying a second set of locknuts now.
My brother has his on Megan coilovers right now, and they suck. Here comes the standard answer too, the roads here are horrible in Windsor. He did have it an inch lower all around for one day, then hit every single bump in the road and then managed to hang his car up so bad that one rear wheel was off the ground pulling into my parents driveway, on a bus route so traffic doesn't stop there. My dad laughed his ass off as I had to rock the car jumping on the back bumper to get traction.
I'm telling him to go with a 2J with twins because he will want more power after a few months anyways.
Sounds about right. Just tell him if he wants it to be a reliable swap, prepare to spend at least 4-5K. I'm into mine for much more.
In my opinion, if he really wants to be ahead of the game, go VVTI... there's the myth about the connecting rods being weaker, but that's only true for UZ engines. They are newer, have more torque at a low RPM's, can be more fuel efficient and sound better too!
