Thanks man, means a lotOriginally posted by Earl View PostExcellent job so far=) I was a huge fan of your e36's and am happy to see another full on build from you.
Hahaha, me too. And best part is that I **** welding / general body work. I am an Maritime Engineer and always preferred tinkering with mechanical stuff. Can't wait my selfOriginally posted by ryanjblajda View Postdamn. i feel like youve rewelded 90% of the car. cant wait to see it come together.
Can't wait to see it rolling. But it will not be that low it the rear, because if I match the front fitment the car wont be going down the road, it will be sitting on the front subframe. So It will be raised.Originally posted by Welfare View PostWinning shot right here
All rigggggggggggggghttttttttyy then. This thread is full of pictures, only thing that can make it better, is more pictures.

Started by putting primer on the various parts for the underside of the car, can see the rear sub-frame with gray primer. And my friend hunkered down, mixing some more primer.

I did not put anything down to protect the floor of the garage, and it made a huge mess of everything, so I put something down to protect the floor.

You can see how foggy it is in there. Mmm paint fumes, this is all done in a basement of a house, so it smelled upstairs as well, thank god that the owner of the house is on a vacation in Iceland. He would have been pissed at me.

Got new tingys for the holesies

Got a new ghost face welded in.

Had to replace a bit of metal upwards as well. You can just make out where i have welded it.
So as i have no real experience with body work. I had to call in the special forces. Witch consists of my brother.

So this is why i wanted help. Time to build up the side skirts

But before that, me and my friend that was hunkered down mixing paint in the other picture. Put all the doors on the car, aligned them and got even gaps all around. I was very pleased with how it turned out since, both of use had never done it before. This photo is of my brother cutting the door sills.
Also I did not know how large the gaps should be, so we ended up driving to another man, that also own an E28. At the moment he has the only E28 that is roadworthy in all of Faroe Island. And I asked him if I could measure the gaps, witch he allowed me. Really nice man, owns an 2002i and a few other newer expensive cars such as jag/merc and volvo. But ye the gaps were around 5mm all around.

After a lot of bending, welding. hammering and so on. To make sure all the lines line up, and the the new sills are aligned with the doors. This is the result. The same has been done to both sides.

Here is one random picture, the door sills are cut of. With all the parts put on and aligned.

Ohh, I wish i could get this fitment and get no rubbing, but it will be more camber on the front.Last edited by Zic; 12-12-2014, 12:57 PM.

I've been using 0.8mm, 1mm, 1.25mm and even 2mm.Originally posted by d0wse View PostHey. I am about to start rehabing my newly accquired e28. What kind of gauge steel do i need for the floors and what kind of welder are you using?
Used the 2mm for the frame rails, and 0.8mm for non structural components. Normally I just measure the thickness of the part I've cut of, then re-weld it with the same or thicker metal.
No idea, but I know its a ESAB MIG welder.

Thanks man, yeah I'm a DIY'er since money is tight haha.Originally posted by Red_Arrowheads View PostThis build thread is amazing man!
I like your DIY attitude about it. Makes me want to dive back into my [incredibly slow moving] project.
I might have to "borrow" your idea/design of the rotisserie
that would really help my project...
Yeah dive into it, mine has taken a long time, and a lot has happened personally that has slowed the project down.
Yeah feel free to do so man, just get proper bolts and nuts, at least grade 8.8
Hahaha thanks, well it is not that rustedOriginally posted by CBREEZ View PostThis thread is not only inspiring but scary as all hell….. to think your car was in what looked to be awesome shape prior to the little fender bender. That led you to this… terrified of what I might find during my tear down.
but yeah quite bad.
Just dig in and see what you find, and what ever pops up, fix it. Keep up your work man, it will turn out great I'm sure.

So after I ran out of gas, i only had the angle grinder. So I got a little carried away with the chopping.

Ended up cutting out the frame rails, since water had seeped through the hole in the floor pan, and started rusting the rails.

This is the old rusted mounting point for the accelerator pedal.

Pictures speak for them self.

The mounting point, is welded on the backside of this panel.

Panels welded up.

Frame rails welded up, really nice to work with thicker sheet metal, can get nice welds without burning through.

Got a little carried away with the spray gun.
Oh and a couple pictures of the rear. mmm love that wide wheel and the stretch.

And the best part. NO RUBBING.
So this is where i am at the moment, got a video of the fitment on instagram, and i don't know how too share it.
