  • GTIKole's MKV Build.

We'll I have been on here for a bit and never did this so I guess it time to share.

    Oct 2008
I bought the car on October 31, 2008. I looked at a few new Rabbits and GTI's but then by chance found this guy sitting in the back of a Honda dealership. after a few hours of talking I drove the car home on halloween night.
It's a 2006 GTI, Untied Grey, 6 speed and had 30k on the clock.

    Feb 2009
After trying to avoid the itch to build this for a few month I broke down. I picked up a set of H&R sport springs to lower the car a bit. I was happy at first but soon after wanted to be lower.

    Sept 2009
The car stayed the same for a bit, was busy spending the summer riding my bike all over the place. Then I moved into an apartment with a garage and it all goes down hill from here.

I ordered a set of FK high sport coil overs. first thing I had when I got them was take the helper springs out and threw them in the trash can. After a few hours of work the car was on coils and getting lower. I also removed the rear wiper and plugged the hole.

I got the car tuning with REVO stage 1 software.

After driving it for a few days I knew the tire sizes were holding me up so I switch to 205/40/17 Falken 512's on my Classix's and then spun the coils down.

I then did not like how much the wheels sat in so I picked up 13mm for up front 30mm for the rears. I also order a votex rep lip & a badgeless grill from TM tuning.

    Oct 2009
Figured it was time for new wheels so I trade the classix's for a set of c4 saw blades painted white.

I then got my hood notch filled finally!

    Dec 2009
Winter hit Indy pretty hard so I threw the car into winter with a set of denvers I picked up from a friend and raised the car up. I also had a front bumper shaved and painted my grill trim white to match the saw blades.

    Feb 2010
It started to warm up a bit so I knew it was time to get the car in order. I pick up a diesel geek skid plate, open lower grilles & lower the car to zero threads.

Skid plate bolts after one trip to Louisville for WBTB..

    April 2010
I got bored with the saw blades and wanted something a bit better So sold them and picked these up from Memory Fab. BBS RS's 17x8.5 17x9.5 with 205/45 up front and a 215/45 rear.

After a bit of debate and research I bought a airlift slam series kit with manuel management. it took about 12 hours to do the install with my buddy Ethan and myself, back then air lift had not told you everything you needed to do like the kits of today do. also notch the frame on the passenger side so I could get the frame touch the ground.

    SOWO 2010
Packed up and drove down to florida to see my mom a week before sowo. Then headed to Sowo. on the way home I drove through the tail of dragon and let the gti have some fun.

    June 2010
I switch the rear tires size on rs's from 215/45 to 215/40 and finally got the arch to lay between lip and tire.

    July 2010
I once again got bored with my wheels and sold the RS's to my buddy Nick. I then once agin called up Memory Fab and picked up a new set of wheels. RH ZW1's 17x8.5 and 17x9.5.

Then headed off to IA Summer meet.

    Aug 2010
The car started having bad fuel cut problems so I took it in. The cam follower had broke wearing away my hpfp and my cam. The dealer ship had the car for about a week. Replaced my HPFP, Cam, scam follower, did my water belt and timing belt at the same time to cost future cost down.

I got the car and had a P-flow intake to install on and then took the car for drive and it felt like a new car.

    Sept 2010
With H2O coming up fast I figured I would change some thing around but sadly My RH's Got ruin In shipping. So I rushed to pick up something new and finally found it. I pick up a set of Alphards from here. I also pick up a A3 throttle pipe to replace the factory noise pipe
I Rushed to get them here. The day they showed up i had the tires removed and they were off to powder coating. I got them back a few days before I left. Got them on and got on the road for H2O.

On the way to H2O I hit a possum in the middle of Ohio then broke the center of my lip and cracked my shave bumper in a few spots then about 8 hours Later I smashed my first oil pan on a bridge transition. Spent 3 hours on the side of the road replacing it.

    Oct 2010
After H2O I was kinda bummed out on the case and thought maybe it was time to pay of some loans and credit cards. So I started to part out and sell the parts off my car. I sold the air ride and the wheels. I picked up a set of sport coil overs to run and left the car alone for the next 5 months.

    Feb 2011
I started a better paying job and work with my good friend Brandon who got me back in the mood to build a car. So i picked up a 1979 4 door Rabbit to build and started throwing everything into that build as I left the mkv alone and a snow storm ripped my bumper off ruining it.

    July 2011
I almost had the Rabbit running but I was missing the mkv more than I cared about the Rabbit. I busted missed the feel and the look of the car. At that point I sold everything I had in the Rabbit build to get the GTI back on its Feet.

I did a little cheap make over on the GTI. Paint the Denver black and grill trim.

I then pick up my second Air ride set up thanks to Bag Riders.
Accuair switch speed management, air lift slam series fronts, air lift rear bags, air lift rear shocks, 400c compressor, NUMATICS water trap, 3/4" line and a 5 gallon tank.
This time the Install only took 6 hours with a some friends help and I was back on the ground.

I then Pick up some new wheels
Superstar dishs 17x8 17x9 and put 205/40 falken 512's on them. I had to mill the holes out to allow a 14mm bolt.

I went to Treffen in chicago and pick up a roof rack from my buddy Joey. and then came home and got to work on the car again. I bought a new front bumper and fenders to replace the beat ones on my car and had them Painted in Cinci by Mark.
Drove like this for a few weeks.

    subframe on the ground

    Sept 2011
I got my parts back from paint and the car looked amazing again but still bummed it's no longer shaved.

    Oct 2011
I figured i would keep my wheel whore ways going and trade my wheels off but this time I was getting something back. I got my old Alphards back which was nice because it was the one wheel I did not want to sell but did to get ahead at the time.

    Oct 2011
I painted the grille trim and roof rack bars White to match the wheels.

Also warped the Merc caps in white vinyl

Also finally got fog lights again after a possum took them out.

    Jan 2012
pick up yellow ftp and fog lights.

I found out I got a job at ECS Tuning as a automotive photographer, I stepped away from the car and got Ready to move from Indianapolis, IN to the Cleveland, OH Area. After some stress and all the packing My girlfriend and I moved into our Apartment on Ohio and started my new job.

I got settled in my New apartment and got started at work. I knew it was time to start looking for new wheels for the MKV plus the lady wanted the alphards for her MK4. So I started searching for the right set. I also figure since I was in a new town I would go and shoot some photo's..

My buddy Max then got as hold of and asked if I would want to buy his RS's that he had started to refinish. The price was right ands the sizing and offset was what I was looking for so I meet up with Max and picked up my new wheels.

    Rear fitment.

    Front fitment.

The second I got home I started getting to work on them. Did a quick polish on all the lips just to bring back the mirror finish. then had to cut all the old sealant off the faces, lips and barrels. Then I cleaned, sanded, taped off and primed the faces and the waffles.

    Start color.

    Faces and waffles primed.

    Mock up.

Then my tires showed up and I got all the wheels built.
    Specs- 17x8 et15 and 17x9.5 et 25

Then the tires got mounted and I got them on the car.

I went to WBTB in Louisville. Had a great time and saw some old friends. Then I got home and drove to work one day and this happened...

So I figured it was time to make the fronts wider since they were sitting on the tire when I aired out. I ditched the 17x6 barrels and picked up 17x7" barrels and rebuilt them.

    New Specs.
    Fronts- 17x9 et 28 with a 205/40 Falken 512
    Rears- 17x9.5 et25 with a 215/40 Falken 512.

The lady's MK4 and my MKV.

And that leads us to today. 5 broken oil pans and 110k miles later.

I sold my RS's at SOWO when I was in Ohio hanging out hahah
But I hooked up with David at Memory Fab and we are building up a new set of wheels for the MKV. Sad to say the grey on white theme I have been do for a look time is ending. New color for set up but still polished lips and gold hardware. They should be finished and be heading my way by the end of the week or by the middle of next.
Here some of the last photos I took with the RS's on.

Well still waiting on the new wheels to be finished. David is just waiting on hardware to show up for the other two wheels. Car feel like poo garbage on the steelies so I'm ready to have good wheels and tires back. here is a peek at the wheels.

I spent the weekend working on my air ride a bit and just cleaning everything up. I also ordered myself a new badge less grill. Tired of the cheap look of the flat front grill.
        current state of the car

Lunch break update. New grill on. looks a lot nicer than my old flat blacked badge less grill. The red trim will not last long at all. Getting some paint this weekend to paint the trim to match the wheels.

                  Ask and you shall receive
It's not the best thing in the world but it works and I can still use my trunk, I must for me with riding bmx and always having a bike in the car. False floor goes on top of this to protect everything. I have added a second feed line to the manifold and took out those block be hide the tank. Hopefully I'll redo the trunk set up before H2O with a second compressor and better lay out.
