  • yet another E28 build... where are all these E28's coming from?

Hey guys... I've been a member here for while but I figured I'd finally sit down and document the progress on my e28. Its come a long way and still has pretty far to go.

After looking at a few local E28's with nothing but issues, i finally stumbled upon the right car.

I brought her home May 13 of last year... my birthday. Happy birthday to me! an 85 535i with tons of maintenance and a few mods done by the previous owner.

The Exterior of the car was in great shape. The interior, not so much. The dash was badly cracked, and some pieces were removed because the previous owner did not like them. The day after I bought the car I went to a local pick and pull, and they just so happened to have a full black mint interior. Needless to say the car went right under the knife.

    old tan/half missing interior

horrible pic but old dash all cracked

    almost all back together

I decided not to take the black seats because I wanted to eventually get something nicer than the factory comfort (couch) seats that came in these cars.

After a few days of work I had to park the car for the summer, as I was going out to sea for 3 months for school

When I got back, I registered the car and started to enjoy it. I tucked the bumpers and took the badges off the rear

In preparation for H20, i decided to cut my front springs. The car came with Bav auto springs and Bilstien sports, but the bav autos were not that low and the spring rates suck. It still didn't lower the car enough, but better than what it was

After H20, I decided I needed to start getting more serious with the car as far as "making it my own". Being on a college budget, I started looking around for some wheels. I stumbled upon these on craigslist

17x9.5 all around corvette sawblades. Let the ****** ****, I like the wheels.

I stripped the wheels and bought these

I got some tires and mounted them up sanded down, just to see what they would look like

Then I decided on a color

In the past couple weeks I embarked on some more bumper mods. I **** the US diving boards, so I took what righteousrags88 did and modified it a bit more.

They aren't complete, but look so much better than the diving boards to me. I still need another set of E28 bumper strips (if anyone has a set PM me!) to complete it. I got a set off an e23 and they aren't quite the same.

I had an E36 turbo project that i fixed up and just sold this week, so in the next few days i'm going to order some coilovers, and will be building and exhaust for the car. Then will come some seats and a wheel. let me know what you guys think of the car!

I love it. The sawblades look great on there. I also love what you did to the bumpers and am looking forward to seeing the front one completed.

I wasn't too sure about the sawblades at first but they really work on that car. Bumpers are looking good too

thanks for the comments guys. I'll try to get some pics of the front finished, and when I get my hands on some more e28 bumper strips, the whole car.

I also ordered some NEX coilovers last night, so going to be going low soon!

Im SO tired of seeing sawblades.

However, your car makes them look right at home. Great combo.

Yeah, I couldn't wait any longer, I feel like everyone who is reasonable (IE almost nobody on mye28) does not have any issues with them, so i'll try them out. For the price you can't beat them... I was thinking about building my own but I had some $ burning a hole in my pocket and can't stand the reverse rake i'm rocking right now.

Did you get them off ebay? if so how long did they take to come?

Thanks for all the compliments on the wheels guys... i'm surprised for this site! haha. I am always keeping my eyes open for something else, but i rather take care of other things before another set of wheels.

yah, i saw some e34 guys liked them and they are reasonably priced. i would get an awesome set of ground controls, but i'm just gonna beat the shit out of these. i did get them off of ebay and they didn't take long to come in, just can't remember how long.

small update. Was trying to get the car lowered for dubs on defrost in CT but my coils did not come in time. I did get the bumpers done, and the guy who I bought the second set of mouldings from threw in a factory BMW rear spoiler so I threw it on the car. Its growing on me, I think its going to stay. What do you guys think?

My tail lights were painted by the previous owner and the weather had taken a toll on the paint, so I stripped them down and polished them back to the stock chrome.

I also through another 5mm spacer out back so my offsets are now +8R +6R

                            only pics I quick snapped:

My coilovers came yesterday, so this weekend I am going to throw those on along with front brakes and new tie rods.

so besides the spoiler feedback, what do you guys think of going something way different on the wheels? I have an opportunity to get a set of 15x10 borbets for a good price, and maybe run a 205/50/15 or 225/50/15. what do you guys think? go smaller or keep the sawblades for a bit longer until i have some cash to get some wide 16's or 17's?
