Five- oh swap into an e30.

  • S'more small work today, to keep me busy since I now have to wait to build my trans mount

    Started off the day picking up some paint and other bits, and found this 90 piece tool kit for $15. Not bad for the quality of it!



    Then I cut up the door handles/ armrests to give me more room for the cage. I forgot to get pics of the finished piece, so I'll just update tomorrow with the before/ after pics.

    Picked up a fire extinguisher, still deciding where is the most convenient place to put it/ easiest place to reach.





    Finally painted the trim rings that surround/ hold in the headlights.





    Pulled the trunk off to do some paint/ dent work and delete the 318is badge. Stickers!




    Repainting my tow hook from purple.




    Then got to work on my new valance/ lip. I don't have any before pics(I'm bad at this hahah), but here it is after painting.




    And very quick test fit,

    Also, though I'm not a huge fan of sticker bombing exterior/ visual parts, I do love helping good people get their brand/ blog/ product out there, so If you want to send stickers, free stuff or whatnot my way I'd love to help out(I'm not just a cheap teenager ). I'll hopefully have a steady update of small things this week! I got a lot of other stuff done today that isn't worth pics/ mentioning too.

    • This is awesome, I wanted to do this swap for a while, but didnt have the time/resources. How bad was the wiring? That would be one of my main concerns. Also, how much do the exhaust manifolds (specifically driver's side) interfere with the steering shaft and motor mount?

      • I don't really have the time/ resources either I haven't tackled the wiring yet, but it honestly isn't too intimidating, even for me. Manifold wise, you HAVE to run shorty headers to run any type of exhaust. You either flip short headers to the front and either run just front dumps, or route it under the subframe( I have NO clearance for that.) Or run two passenger side shorties so the drivers side piping runs in front of the engine, then merges with the passenger side and runs under the car. Thats what I'll be doing. Feel free to pm me any other questions, I'll try to help you out. And thanks!

              And thanks! Going to continue re-assembling tomorrow... This weekend I'm going to get a Fig Newton sticker made for the front windshield

                • Interesting trans mount you have going there....


                  I made my fender roller using the same idea (welding strips together to form a wider piece) I am assuming that's what you did there.. Well to say the least, it only lasted 1 car until it cracked. I got good penetration on the bead as well. Just a heads up, I'm sure you're going to brace it somehow

                  I want more engine bay pics!!!

                    Well. That scares me... I was going to run another piece on the bottom to brace it. Thats strange though, welds are usually stronger than what you're welding, aren't they? And I'll get more bay pics up soon! And yeah haha, not a bad post at all.

                    • They should be, but mine definitely wasn't It was the most stressed part on the roller however, so I'm sure that had something to do with it as well. I also grounded it down flush which made it a little weaker.

                      What are your plans for the trans mount? That looks a bit wider then the e30v8 mount.

                        I'm planning on bolting the c4 mount to that, then welding the arms of the stock piece onto the mount to fit it. I'll have to see though, its a bit eschewed right now. I've got lots of scrap metal though, so as long as I'm sure its strong, thats all I want. Its definitely not as wide haha, must be the pic. Unless to mean short(front to back) then yes, it is. But width wise its no wider than the transmission.

                                Thanks man Got 5, a spare one painted red. I was told the tires were crap and had flat spots, when I got there? All 5 were in perfect condition, hardly look like they were used! I'm getting my new tires mounted though, so I need to find another set of wide 15's to mount them on to smoke

                                Sorry, my bad, I'll clarify: I'm using a t5 World Class. The t5 and c4 use the same mounting patterns, but the c4 mount is shorter and therefore allows more clearance under the car. So I'm using a t5 with a stock c4 mount.
