Can you post pics of the engine all apart?
Getting an e28 in about a year.

And good progress! And you might need to tune the AFM to lean it out a little.

A Sherman Schwartz story. (e28 content)
decided to get one of these going.
So here is my 1986 535i that I acquired after my buddy drove it all over the midwest and it quit running at 400k on the clock. Without a beat I got a trailer and pick him up.
after getting it on the charger for a bit I tired and got it to start but only with the MAF/airvane fully opened. Upon father inspection I notice a few cracked and missing vacuum lines along with a very nasty valve cover leak. For those who dont know some of these older BMW's are really touche about vacuum leaks so new hoses and gasket were ordered.
here it is waiting for parts it sat next to my e30
ricer red hose!
with the new hoses on the car ran on its own but was still very rich.
next was the drop, cut springs for now
next was ditching the blue wheels for black
not having a rear bumper wasn't too good looking with when you can the diff, spare tire well, and gas tank so snagged an e34 bumper and made it work
the cars exhaust had fallen off somewhere on the highway in Arkansas on one of the previous owners trips, so I had one welded on after getting tired of constantly setting off car alarms.
then next was volvo lip and e34 headlight
then of got to enjoy the car for a while...
but then the running rich finally caught up with me and the cat got clogged. Compression and leakdown showed a burnt valve on #5 and #6, also discovered a broken motor mount and the center link was about to fail.
so the car would hardly run, engine about fall out, and suspension about to fail I decided to park it and get parts ordered.
so first was all new steering and suspension ordered, but the car would need to be degrease first.
the lower gaskets and new motor mounts.
upper gaskets and head bolts
started to disconnected to pull the engine
then loaded it back up on the trailer and hauled it to a buddy's shop to use his lift
after pulling the driveshaft and removing the trans mount it came right out
now the car is back in my garage and I hope to make a lot of progress in the next few weeks to get him safe and road ready. Cleaning up the car will be a big goal too, for its age and miles the car is in great shape and with a little work I hope to get another 400k out of it.Last edited by budski; 01-23-2013, 09:48 PM.Tags: None
