burned the midnight oil last night and finished off the suspension.

quick degrease job was done, exposed a few power steering leaks on the low pressure lines that need to be taken care of so it doesnt soak everything again

wish I had some before photos but this was all oil and grime covered... had no clue the steering box was silver!

didn't take long to get the front suspension and steering done, love the look of new parts.

new dogbones and swaybar endlinks, did discover the rear subframe bushings and diff mount were shot, something that will be saved for a later date. Also the brakes will need to be addressed very soon.

about 4am had it back on the ground again

kinda stuck right now waiting for parts, but I plan on doing a little more engine bay cleaning and tidying up some odd and ends. only 33 days to get him done!

so tonight was spent in my own garage vs the shop space since I'm waiting on engine parts.

first was getting the car in the air, you can see how small of a space I'm stuck with.

driver a side was a mess, you can see how bad the power steering and oil leaks were... the partial cause of severely worn components.

all out! it was nice that everything was oil soaked so it came off easy.

and now to celebrate with brownies!

the goal tomorrow is to start getting everything degreased and clean up some wiring. 35 days to go!

Love it. Threads like these make me wish I had the money to buy the clean E28 I spotted online in town. Sadly the other car takes the money first. Keep it up, I want to see this thing back together.

Thanks, it's kind of stressful with my deadline but I'm trying not to rush and do things right. Who knows, maybe the car can last for another 400k

so with the engine build eating away at the wheel/tire funds I'm not going to get what I want ready in time for my deadline, so I threw some 205/55 on a set of 16's I had laying around.

    very little stretch.

also head parts got shipped today, also ordered shifter bushings and next week hope to order timing stuff and a few other goods.

only 36 days till the car's first show and so much to do.

    more work today.

finally got the heads off, found the walls still have its cross hatching which is awesome but I did see the pistons kissed the intake valves, Good news is that the valves were just fine but I need to chase down my why it happened.

    bottom felt nice and tight

block is looking pretty nasty though, but with the bottom end all tight there is no reason to hot tank it.

    dropped the cam out

then removed the rocker shaft (huge PIA)

not only was is a difficult to get the shafts out I managed break a rocker, got one on order already. Needless to say if this is the worst them I'm OK with that.

getting the valves out was a breeze.

and gave them a good clean with a wire wheel, a lot of carbon on these

check the head to make sure it was not warped, which it was well in spec but decided to take .005 off for a clean surface and cheat a little for compression.

    so much better!

started prepping to cut new seats and discovered the valve guides on the exhaust side were out of spec so those were also ordered and the heads are on hold. That being said it was time to get after a few cosmetic things...

much better, but still needs paint to keep that silver

    after a quick spray.

scrubbed the block and gave it some black, started to put some parts back on.

now while I'm waiting for parts I'll attack the car next getting it torn down.

However, what on earth is the story with the transam in the background of your second to last pic? It looks like it starts its days by raping baby seals.
its another project in the shop, was nothing special for a long time but a lot of progress has been made on it this year. Last time it was on the dyno is was pushing 380hp, but now the turbo is on and it maxed out at 790hp before it started to go lean so now its sitting waiting for fuel upgrades.

little progress on the engine, been running on next to no sleep this week so I didn't get far as I wanted.

got it on the engine stand, I'd have to say see it out of the car its MASSIVE compared to all the m20's I've worked on.

everything was coming apart smoothly, especially for a 400k engine that's never been opened up, until I got to the water pump and snapped all the bolts except 1. I'll show the process of removing them soon.

but good progress in the two hours of getting to work on it.

looking quiet bare, but still massive.

the goal is to get the heads off thurs and if the damage isn't unrepairable to machine the valves to seat back down, then a lot of media blasting and painting to get it ready to reassemble. Tomorrow if I can get a nap in I hope to get sherman up on jacks to start replacing all the suspension and steering, but we'll see.

The goal is have Sherman ready for his first show April 15th, which is still 5 weeks away but with full time school, full time work, married life, home ownership, and struggling to get my track car ready it will be quiet the task.

so the night I was disconnecting everything on top I was enjoying my budget beer and decided to cover my coil.

needless to say it was haggard, half asses, and very hipster. So after some searching I decided to go with my family heritage and very German last name.

snagged it on ebay for .95 cents, more suiting beer for a German car. This time more sober I was able to make a new non-crinkled coil holder.

Needs a little more cleaning up but I wanted to at least to make some progress on the car when I had no time to even get out to it today and I did. Tomorrow should be getting started on the engine rebuild!
