I haven't considered a miata motor, but I was feeling a bit weird one day and started tossing the idea around of doing a Toyota 22RE swap. I have one in my daily pickup and I think it might make an interesting swap choice. Bulletproof motor too... But that probably won't happen, I will more than likely keep it BMW but you never know

...there is a little trick to prevent drilling to far and stop in the right time...you need to take a closer look at the cutter drill bit while drilling...you can see a little color change for a very short moment...it is much easier to spot it with zinc plated metal, which your subframe i think is not...eitherway you did a good drilling...i think your cutter is to sharp on the outside...normally the drill is flat (like mills) and has a thorn in the middle which leaves a different drilling image...
