So i have had some issues with the car lately. It wrecked one of the ancient uni-joints in the driveshaft so i replaced that. All was well. Then the centre bearing started to give way. Ordered a new one and didnt bother going OEM or heavy duty. BIG mistake. Took all of 10 mins with one hard launch to do rip the bearing from the rubber and began to melt things.
Also finally replace the broken tailgate handle so now i dont have to reach inside the tray and constantly leave the cover off the inside of the tailgate. i like new things
I have been collecting parts to lift it as i will need to get extended brake lines etc. I tried lowering it down real low, then due to my steep driveway couldn't get back down, so ill need to find somewhere else to redo the lowering. I put a small digital tacho in it which i will get some photos of at some point. Nothing fancy just good to know how fast things are spinning

So as of late not much has happened. Been working on other cars but have spent some time on the Hilux. I installed some semi-sealed beams with HID's as one of the sealed beams died, and they produced pretty shit light anyway. Got a Hi/Low beam set from Jaycar which is an electronics shop which i generally buy solder, connectors, wiring and IC's from. they were cheap and didn't expect much but they're actually decent. 6000k globes are nice and white. Ballasts are slim but seem to be of good quality. Only problem is that they're illegal here without self leveling devices.
Comparison.
Excuse mums crappy ES lancer
Will get a photo soon of somewhere pitch black
Also i have been tossing up the idea of lifting the truck cos i wanna get airborne. My brother recently bought a lift kit and some 33's for his Triton Ute. Mocked up i will probably go for a 32" instead but will need to do some cutting.

I have been collecting some parts. I got some wider steel rims, an LSD, and some seats.
Diff is a 3.73 Clutch pack LSD from a MA70 Supra. Seems to be in good nick and didnt cost much. Going to rebuild it with the Weir kit to shim it up a bit.
The seats were an interesting find. I was driving home a couple of nights ago when i spotted someone had thrown out some bucket seats in bulk rubbish. It was the Porsche emblem that caught my eye but i didn't realize what i found until the morning as it was 1am when i found them.
First one was an OMP Turini or HA/680 Fiberglass seat. Not sure what it came out of. Maybe a porsche????
Next one was a Sparco Ultra which is ADR approved so i can legally run it in my car.
Both need a fair bit of attention but I'm still stoked that i got them for nothing
Hoping to get this diff in soon as its getting really annoying spinning 1 wheel in any time i corner in rain. I've started to just expect it to lose traction in the rain, and crawl to speed at a snail pace.

I got around to Putting in the seats. The Weir diff kit hasn't arrived yet so diff is still waiting to go in. Unfortunately there isn't much space in a single cab hilux, so the seats do make things a bit squishy. Also only small people can fit into the passenger side, and me and all my friends are 6'1" and taller so it's a bit squishy. Removing some foam will help. Used the original sliders and welded up adapters so i can always go back to original seats. I put in an old 5.56mm ammo box as a center console to fill the spot of the third seat. Had some Dynamat lying around too, so i did the back of the cab to help with the drone.
always keep a small lego set incase i get stranded and am, bored
cleaned the covers but haven't restitched yet. Also left in all the extra foam
Diff is in good nic. all the clutches and springs were within spec and no signs of bad wear
Hopefully diff kit comes soon. Its been 17 days and I'm itching to leave some smokey 11's

I did eventually get the diff in. It has much better traction in the wet now, does better skids, and doesn't get bogged as much.
The wier stage 1 kit
the part number for the bearing that allow the Supra LSD to fit into the hilux diff carrier
the old open centre
the size difference (notice the supra diff sits about 2mm shorter at the ring gear
4.10 Ring gear transfered over
new carrier bearings are in and LSD in diff carrier.
notice it sits 2mm over to one side. PLenty of engagement on this side
less but still enough on the other. This can be solved by using a 2mm ring gear spacer, but no one in Perth W.A had one and to get one made would have been expensive, or to get one shipped would have taken time. It works fine without it anyway. Some people grind down the axle 2mm but its not necessary. I didn't.
Drained out all the old oil and put in new Hypoid oil.
Its all back together now but the weather has been shitty so i haven't gotten out to take any pics or videos yet. The Wier kit definitely locks it up much better. I can really give it hell and it stays locked, but under no load while turning it is still just loose enough to avoid chirping.
