First update of the year, nearly a year since I started properly :

Some new parts arrived (most of it from DanThe - highly recommended) PAS pipes, Engine & Fan loom as well as heated mirrors, m52 airbox, Scorpion exhaust tips and new plates (from santy)

Recently discovered that the top slot in a air-con valance was just open/empty, didn't like this so I cut the middle and end bits from the slot of an old valance and got to work.

    I can now fit 2 air-con grills :

Not that you will really see them with the tec2 apron on

Will have to order another one as the 2nd one I have can only be held on with zip ties.

Also got the key holes welded up (actually, my brother did them both)

With my brother back I'm hoping things will move a little faster, might even get a few mini's road worthy and a mini project finished as well

Nothing major to update, to cold to work outside on the shell. Got a few small things done indoors:

These weren't really dirty to begin with but they got cleaned during the week, had a before pic but it looks now different

Started building up my lights, some of the Lamin-x needed trimming, new adjusters (I used an adjuster in place of the broken leveling control thing), just the rings to paint or powder coat silver and sort out the wash/wipe for them

Decided yesterday I was going to delete the side markers, made up plates and welded them in

I must have gone to fast even though it took me ages cause both panels warped a little Hopefully my bodywork man can sort that out.

Also straightened out the bottom edge of both wings

There's a little rust on both of them to sort out, then I'll paint the inside of them and get some stonechip or underseal on them.

Got the other side of the panel painted up, looks good as new again!

Painted another door, this time Mauritius blue with 5% (5gr per 100 gr of paint) metallic added.

It looks a bit light, which was to be expected with the extra metallic flake.

I've a fitment issue with the rear arches and tires getting in the way of each other, probably something your all used to?!

My rear beam is fitted with castor and camber plates so I can adjust either. Today I test fitted the rear beam with a wheel, 16x9 with 225/40 and 215/40 tires, to check for clearance with camber dialed out as much as the plates allow.

And 215/40 tires, iX arch flare also fitted.

I've already trimmed the lip back a bit, there's maybe 3mm left, I also intent to fold this up flat. And it also looks like I will need a slight flare for the wheel to tuck in under the arch. I was concerned the iX arch flares wouldn't work with a flared arch but it seems they can be trimmed back. Now to find someone who can roll and flare them

Keep looking, seems to be no shortage of tourings around the place! One of the lads got a cheap Mauritius blue one not so long ago.

I'm leaning more towards a darker shade of blue. I have a door sprayed up that needs a polish to see what I make of freshly painted Mauritius blue. Also had some more Mauritius blue made up with 5% (5gr per 100gr) more fine metallic flakes.

Over the past week or so I've gotten a start made on prepping the sunroof frame and getting it sealed up. First up some rust to get rid of, I used a cupped wire wheel to get rid of most of the rust, after that it was up to this stuff to do the rest

Using a brush I applied it to any bare or rusty metal on the panel. Few pics of some treated area's below:

    Deox gel applied:

    After 3-4hrs:

    After 3-ish days:

That was all Friday evening, it was still soft on saturday and would have washed of nicely but I couldn't get at it until this afternoon. I agitated it a bit with a wet brush and wiped it clean then, area's that were a bit more stubborn got the cupped wirewheel treatment and this is the result

After that I put some weld behind all the area's that were previously spot welded to the roof skin, quick tidy up on the inside to make it smooth again and then I cleaned down the whole panel after another quick sand

Thats just one side with a bit of primer on it. Decided to use a zinc primer as it's a bit better at protecting the metal against rust, apparently, time will tell!

Will get started on the under side later this week. It's not got any significant rust to treat just a good clean and sanding down of a few area's where the paint had gone soft.

Jozi! Looking good man, I still haven't managed to get my hands on one, thinking I might even go for an E21 at this stage! Looks great though, I'd go for the darkest of the blues if it were me!

    Change of plans again

I didn't get going to Holland over the weekend so went and got some paint. I'm also back to being unemployed again so I can work on the car during the week and see it finished sooner

I got a bit of paint on Saturday to try on a scrap bonnet. Mauritius blue, Mauritius blue with a bit of added black and a metallic Fiat colour :

Sanded the bonnet down a little, made up a little spray room hanging of the garage door in it's open position and sprayed up 3 rectangles. First time spraying for me, so excuse the orange peel in the below pics. I spent all of 2 mins flatting it down a bit and then went at it with the polisher (and some how managed to scratch the clear coat). Bit hard to take pics in the garage, will try take better ones when it's bright out.

What do you think? I like the metallic fleck of the lighter one, middle one is to dark. Will see tomorrow in sunlight (if it's not raining) what it's really like.

Not a whole lot to update really, got this started last weekend:

And earlier today did the other side

    And the crossmember

I'm away next weekend and the following as well No more updates for a few weeks.

Also got the parts room tidied up a few weeks ago, parents kept giving out about something to do with a mess and space and room no good or something, anyway it's a bit more organised and the room is a bit more usable:
