One thing I can say while walking around the car and looking at it with the rears under it... from some angles it looks downright bizzare, but the smile on my face will not go away. This is getting good.
I don't know that I've mentioned it yet, but I've decided to put the 1UZ and T5 5-speed aside for the 190E, and I'll be going with a VG30 for the Z. It's smaller and will suit the car much better than the Lexus V8. I'll be picking up a motor and tranny in the next couple weeks and once I have that, the frame will start going together.... finally.
When the motor in my Forester blew I asked what the reason was... I spent a few grand to get me back to where I was a month ago... but with worse gas mileage. Now I can see it. If that wouldn't have happened I would have been sitting with a $2,800 Built T-56, which would have been fine.... but I'm much happier going with the VG. So, everythinig does happen for a reason.

                      • im a big fan of 1uz's but the v6 is a good choice, being lighter, the same marque, and more performance oriented from the factory. are you going single or twin turbo?

also, can you please do more welding videos? that would make me (and a fair few other people, i think) quite happy.

                        • The intercooler piping for the Rx7 build... two routing options.

And a little more progress on the Z.

Rear end torn down. Diff, axles and hubs will be the only components used.

Lower A-arms... front and rear mounting points are not concentric, so the geometry leaved something to be desired. Either way, these will all be replaced.

                          • Glad to hear you were able to see the positive in the midst of all this.
I think you should skip the vg30 all together and just go VQ35DE or VQ35HR - Plenty of parts out there to support it, make it go fast and a good 6spd trans behind it. I see them going from anywhere between $1500-$3500

No way a VQ35DE would fit under the stock hood ... and the VG30DE(TT) is HUGE!!!

                              .... I hope you're thinking a VG30E with a low-pro EFI intake off a V6 200SX

I'd rather see a L28 sticking through the hood than some ugly VQ35DE plastic cover/intake tube .. and their oil pans hang too low

There's already been a few VQ35 swaps. They fit. The VG30DETT doesn't though, as far as I know.
