And a quick mock of what the lines will look like... it has already changed greatly since I saved this screencapture. This is also 100% to scale. 280Z_BUILD-3 by SENZA PARI, on Flickr
I envy everything you've done. The styling, the welding, the solidworks models. Everything is just super awesome.
My only little question would be, why did you paint over the stickers on the rim? Do you like it that way? I'm 50/50 on that one..
Thank you... I did want the Work emblem to show, the white sticker is a bit much in my opinion, and yes the stickers were left on. I don't see them coming up anytime soon...If they do manage loose over time then I'll just refinish them.
The Z is down at the shop for the winter, and things will start to happen. Finally:-)
Update as of today... the car is down at the shop, and tear-down has begun. Everything in the interior is coming out, along with the front fenders, motor, trans... everything. Once its all out, the floor and bottom 4" of the car will be completely cut away (frame rails, rocker panels, etc.). It currently sits just a hair under 3" lower than stock, and when everything is said and done it will sit another 6" lower than you see it currently. A reference point is the bottom door sill... right now, its at 10.125", it will be at 4" (2" ground clearance, adjustable both up and down when needed, as Wisconsin roads are terrible).
The top of the front tires will sit above the current hood line, and the rear tires will sit nearly to the peak of the fender, just above the window line. The front wheel centerline will be pushed forward 7", the rears moved back 3" for a wheelbase of 100.7" (the stock wheelbase is much too short for my liking).
The floor will be raised 4" from where it sits now to allow for the drop. The new tube frame will cradle the motor, and support the new suspension. No part of the original frame or strut towers will be used.
I am still debating on a rear end setup.
These are 3 of 7... yes 7... bottles or cans of old detailer/cleaner/some sort of fluid that was burried within the car. Under the carpet, lodged between body panels. The brake fluid in the middle is probably older than the car.
Some of the essentials... portable welder for fit-up and tacking, 60mm wastegates, and snacks. The real welding is done in the building across the street.
Update as of last night...
The rest of the building has been cleared out to make room for next week's new arrials - a 600 hp 2 rotor, and and a 900+ 3 rotor rx7, both receiving a new turbo set-ups. The Z had a lonely weekend.
The interior is completely gutted... next up is taking a number of reference dimensions from which to build the new frame from. Along with the frame, the motor and heads will be gone over with the Romer arm and put into 3D models.
No more fun and games shifter, or steering wheel.
Here you might be able to picture what the front end will look like down the line. Being 6" lower and the front wheel centerline being 7" to 10" further forward, the fenders will have a significant bulge in order to house the wheels and tires. The current tire height is 23.7", the new tires are 25.6".
