Finding a 240z or even a 260z shell should not be that hard...
Other than that.... OMFG!!!!
As for the OP, great work! It's really nice to see a Z getting this kind of attention. And yes, definitely make a thread on HybridZ! I did see your thread on L28 headers, though, but no build thread.
I agree with softg though. I'd like to see a little bit of the Z's shape in the final product. I understand you are vastly reworking the car, but at the very least, I'd like to see the sugar scoops make it to the final product, just so that we all know it's still a Z. I will admit though, that rendering looks pretty fucking nice.

this is going to be like a JGTC car on steroids but based on an old body, and i love it! the quality all over is ridiculous and that video of the welding blew my mind.
some questions for you please:
are you going to make all new composite (carbon presumably) panels, or fab them up in steel?
with your headers you do, i notice they support insane turbos but appear to not brace them other than the strength of the manifold. ive got a GT42 and even with the tial housing it still weighs a tonne, so do you use thicker wall tube or something to make them strong enough?
thanks, keep up the great posting, its great to see fabrication done to this level, and gives the rest of us something to aspire to.sigpic

"solid" though, just offering help if you need it!I have 2009-2012, btw.
Edit: TIGHT! I didn't realize you were in wisco. Would definitely like to meet up, I haz mad skills in complex surfacing, and really expensive rendering equipment. I can make your vision look real before you finish it!

The final car will be out there, but it will remain a Z:-)

As for the turbo manifolds supporting rather large turbos... we do use sch10 pipe typically, which is thicker than most manifolds you see, though not uncommon. I would say that the weld processes we use allows us to get away without using them in some cases. A number of the 2-rotor manifolds (3 rotor's not so much) are braced to the motor or frame in the same fashion as an engine torque-brace.
Thanks again to everyone for all of the kind words... we really do appreciate it. You have no idea!
I'll keep the progress pics coming, whether it be on the Z or not. The past few weeks have been filled with client cars and basketball games (high school state tournament) so the work done on the car has been minimal. I have however been able to double check all of the measurements for critical frame points, and will be ordering up tubing this week, and having the door perimeter/hoop bars CNC bent up. Two-three weeks for those (although the actual run-time for bending is around 45 seconsd I'm told). Good things are around the corner.
And just for fun, a few shots of a 4" downpipe, .035" wall 321 stainless from earlier tonight..

Always enjoying the pics of random welds, even if it has nothing (little) to do with the car
Are all of those made with your walking the cup technique? I need to find a good tutorial on that...Last edited by TeckniX; 03-15-2012, 02:40 PM.

Whoops forgot about this thread. To answer your question, my aunt owned La Hacienda, I think that's what it was called. And I would still be very interested in that L28 if you ever get rid of it.
Also, please tell me the lower rear half of the front fenders will be cut out like JGTC cars. The flat parts of the fenders and hood could also be higher as to not have that bulge for the wheels be so big and noticeable, a la JGTC. But, I realize those aren't final renderings and these are just suggestions.

hey have you seen this? your build reminded me of it, but this one i think stalled a few years back - http://www.gt500.se/
and also this (possibly one of the best 240's ever built and im pretty sure the intake and exhaust were all done in titanium, with the same pie cut method as you're using) - http://www.zparts.com/showcase/engin...z-testfit.htmlsigpic

The front fenders WILL be styled similar to the JGTC cars... the turbochargers will sit right behind the front wheels with the exhaust pointed straight out, probably less than a foot in length at most. And... the front fenders WILL have large arches over the wheels as they'll be moved forward quite a bit, and the car will be about 6" lower. No getting around it.

Spent a few hours this afternoon cutting out some more of the interior, and removing the front fenders/bumper. And because everyone's been all over me to put the wheels on (or even doubting that it's possible!) I mounted them up.
Now, keep in mind the stock front end will be completely removed and the wheels will be mounted to FD uprights and new double A-arm suspension, but this is just a little idea. The car will also sit about 5" lower than it currently is. The door sill will sit 4" from the floor... currently it is about 9.375" at the front, and 10.125" in the rear. Look at Image 0767 (3rd from bottom) and picture the car resting on rocker panel (very bottom point which is painted orange)... this is the height which it will sit when complete.
