while i was in Mexico with the car this weekend i was behind a rusted grand am who decided they wanted to do a burnout as they were turning left onto a divided highway in the middle of nowhere. I turned to my buddy in the passenger seat and said "No way, two can play!" and roasted the tires. i love this car

10 points to the first person who gets the reference.

Figured i would update this since the Opel got put away for the winter today. I'm kind of sad that i won't be able to drive her for a while but i'm happy to get to work.

First i pulled the wheels off since i'm selling them.

Found some interesting things. First the front brakes were upgraded to 2 piston floating calipers and that the hubs have already been converted to extended studs. Plus the fronts had a nice pair of 10mm H&R spacers.

hopefully i'll have time/money to convert the suspension to coilovers so we'll see

I have a couple of options for converting the rear to coilovers but they all involve making a few arms. That wouldn't be too bad it just comes down to time. If nothing else the springs are not progressive so i can just cut a coil to lower the rear down a tad.

Then i pulled the intake off and pulled the plug wires so i could start looking at the wiring and how i could do it better. The wiring is a total shitfest in the bay. It has two different ignition amplifiers wired in and stuff just looks like crap. Since i have to completely rewire the ignition and the alternator (going from externally regulated to internally regulated) i might as well do everything and make it look clean.

I don't know if i'm going to go down tomorrow and start labeling the wiring depends on football

it is easier to work on than the corrado was which it nice but the motor i am using is hard to find parts for here in the US since it was never used in US cars.

took all of ten minutes to sell the wheels which is nice considering they will be useless out here in MN till the spring.

gonna go down tomorrow and start to label the wiring and maybe start pulling some of it out

Another small update. Went down to the shop today to pick up the wheels so they could be picked up by the new owner tomorrow and i thought i might as well do a little work.

I went to a bunch of different stores trying to find wire labels. I finally found some and then went down to the shop and started labeling the wires incase i needed to reference them later. However, after poking around and pulling some things i think it is going to be easier to just start fresh.

To give you an idea of how bad it was there were six different eyelet connections on the starter... Got a lot of the harness disconnected (enough to pull the motor) and set it aside for the time being.

you can't really see from the pic but where most of the harness goes through the bulkhead is sealed with a boatload of sealant and it is going to be a bitch to get it out so i can finish pulling the harness.

wanted to go whole hog with building it since this is the kind of stuff i really like to do.

Went down to the shop to work for a bit. Originally i was planning on pulling the motor but that didn't end up happening. For starters i didn't have anything to drain the oil into and i didn't want it to just lay around and i also didn't want to be under an unbolted motor with no one else in the shop.

So i ended up pulling everything that was left on the motor that needed to come off for it to come out (aside from the remote oil filter) and called it a day.

got our first real snow at the shop too

thats it for now. next is pulling and cleaning the motor and taking the two heads over to headworks for them to do what needs to be done on that end. It has been remarkable how easy a lot of this stuff has been coming off considering the cars age. it has made things so much more fun!
