ac? no, the only reason i ever turned on ac was to make sure it worked. it was completely removed 2 years ago when i pulled the motor. Im about 40% sure at this point that i may mock up something custom where the ac pump used to gosigpic

just decided to throw in a trunk re-do project since it needs some help at the moment:
issues are:
-organization (currently have no space for tool kit etc.)
-sound deadening
-false floor needs to be looked at again and revisited
-wheel spare tire area
-re-do leather on rear strut brace
-fix the trunk plastics that have scratches from over the years
oh and planning for the half cage! I decided I am keeping the rear seats. while they are useless, and always have been, i dont want a dead space back there
im coming to this at a funny moment too. With design week preparations at the industrial design office i work at, really in the mood to design everything to simplicity, so this might be an interesting project over the next few weekssigpic

Judging by your work so far, you will be a great help down that path.
Excited for a snail or two.

Been following your post for awhile now and loving every bit of progress that goes into this!
I'm restoring a E30 touring and want my bay to be a little neather than it. I probably won't go all out but some wires might get re-routed and all the seams etc smoothed a little. Can you tell me how you got it all smooth looking, did you use fillers, fiberglass or seamsealer? I was thinking seamsealer myself and applying it as smooth as possible with something round.

all the work was done by reshaping metal on an english wheel, lots of welding, leadwork (body soldering), and then some body filler to finalize things. 90% of the leveling and smoothing was done with metal and metal techniques, not bondo. bondo will last a season and crack. happens all the time to people, and I am building a car that will hopefully still own in my old age, so i didnt want to cut any corners. thats why it took me 2 years to get the bay complete to where i am happy with it.sigpic

Wow, I should have expected nothing less that a full on thorough approach!
I don't think I can afford to go to the extend of work you have done. I don't be using bondo or fiberglass anyway, I may just settle for neatly applied seamsealer.
Are there pics in the thread (that I missed) from the bay work in progress?

Yeah there are some of the pictures like 10+ pages back in this thread. Just some of them, as my Flickr accounts have all filled upsigpic

^haha. there was quite a bit of drool in fact/ i do have to say the drive home was the most fun i have had in that car in years...
i need to build the second set of wheels soon so i can sign up for some track days in the near future. although i can definitely track the car as it stands shockingly, not sure im going to want to. haha.
thinking 18x10 and 18x11 with some meat this time. same track tires though as they are fabulous. not sure what wheel as of yet, but i want to source something used, and build it to ridiculousness. definitely something in the realm of 3 piece 5 spoke, with a face i will brush and then powder a tinted clear over. have to look into some tinted clearssigpic

not too many updates lately as i work too much. haha. I have been driving the car on weekends, and winning trophies at every event i go to. the recognition has been unexpected and awesome.
I do have a very small list of items to start on as soon as i get back from a business trip.
-strip trunk down and remove all of the interior panels for temporary
-Tail light center panel- shave 300zx logo off the inside of it
-Front lip work and re-mounting
-under motor skid plate/splitter. needed desperately as the plastic one rips off every time i drive the car
-finish up the tubular rear lower control arms
-half cage time!
i do however find it amusing finding random pictures of my car pop up while searching for completely unrelated things. Its definitely whored out a bit on the internet, but randomly searching for a stone company at work came up with this picture
great snap from last years FCF 2011. Its funny seeing the changes since then too. Looks so high up in this picture. haha
Car has gotten quite a bit lower since then, and most importantly can now be driven hard since the latest suspension adjustments.sigpic
