  • VW Lupo - From standard to now - UK

Bought the Loop early October 2010 after selling up my old car. I drove it standard for a few months saving up as I have a lot of plans for it.

It's a 2001 & has the 6speed gearbox, A/C, MCD Sat Nav, Phatnoise harddrive, heated leather seats, VW plate & only 27k on the clock!

Here's how it stood when I bought it:

Since then, I've replaced worn parts. Original centrecaps as they had corroded, interior doorhandles as rubber had peeled and bits of interior trim that had faded as I wanted it looking perfect. The previous owner had done a great job & had bought winter mats, boot protectors, seat protectors etc. Nothing too exciting

I changed the rear lights to the Cambridge version which was from the European SE model. The indicator and reverse strips are same colour and IMO looks smarter.

Left is cambridge light, right was standard.

Since then I've been saving & spending:
    Modifications to date:

    • KW V1 Coilovers
    • BBS RM's - 15x6.5 & 15x7.5
    • Rolled & slightly flared arches
    • Camber shims on the rear (-2.5) & fronts pulled to -1.5.
    • Pressed metal plates
    • Polo 9n2 Rear aero wiper (Winter)
    • De-wiper blank (Summer)
    • Polo GTI Red grill trim
    • Cambridge rear lights
    • Sharran 90mm rear VW badge
    • GTI door sills
    • LED replacement bulbs all round
    • Polo 6n2 Stubby Aerial
    • Mk5 Golf Flip Key

Finally got enough money saved up for some coilovers, went for the KW V1's expensive but IMO worth it. Been in cars with either cheap eBay coilies or AP coilovers and felt every bump going.

Kept it like that for a few months before stumbling across a set of wheels ready for the summer, I had my eye on some deep dish Enkei Mesh 92's 15x7 all round but a stupidly low offset especially with the adapters on as they were Porsche fitment. Which.... stupidly I ended up buying. I test fitted and was disappointed, there was a stupid amount of poke on the front, way more than I wanted. I put the standard wheels back on and sold the Enkei's a week later for £80 profit so all in all worked out well.

    Enkei's:

Only a month later and another long journey went & collected some BBS RM012's. They're staggered 15x6.5front ET33 & 15x7.5 rears ET20. Perfect size IMO, they had been sat on a project Mk1 which hadn't been out of the garage since he owned it.

Got them wrapped in Toyo T1Rs, 195/45/15's. Didn't want to run stretch like the Enkei's had.

Although with the RM's on, had to raise the back end up as was hitting the arch on the smallest of bumps as you can see it sitting high.

Finally got around to getting the arches rolled & slightly flared, didn't fancy my chances doing it myself as REALLY didn't want the paint to crack. Another 2 hour round trip and not even a slight scrape!

How it's sitting now after a few more mods & tweaks!

It was still sitting higher than I had wanted, mainly on the rear. I had lowered back down after the arch rolling but still couldn't go stupidly low on it.

Got round to giving it a proper clean ready for Deva Dubs show.

    - Bilt Clay Bar
    - Dodo Juice Born to be mild shampoo
    - AutoGlym super resin polish
    - Dodo Juice Light Fantastic Wax
    - Dodo Juice Red Mist detailer
    - Poorboys tyre dressing
    - Autoglym glass polish

Wheels were done over with AutoGlym metal polish which has completely faded the mirror finish & Poorboys wheel sealant. So had to scrub them to try and get as much of it as possible off :/

Managed to come home with a trophy too

Again nothing changed for about 4 months until

Ordered some camber shims, got them fitted and took it for the alignment. It's running -2.5 rear and -1.5 front now. Finally I got a bit of extra clearance to get it wound down more.

Not the route I was expecting to go, but it needs doing sooner or later. Going to fully Dynamat the car & save like crazy for a new stereo. I've been wanting one for ages & was going to stick my old JVC unit in but I'd be loosing both my factory Sat Nav & PhatNoise system so the negatives outweighed the positives for doing it.

Saving for a Pioneer F930BT, wish I had a better job!

I plan on using Focal/Rainbow/Genesis branded equipment, looks like I'm going to be buying bit by bit.

    Best get saving!

Went up to Leicester a few weeks back to pick up some audio.

Decided to go for Rainbow amps due to hearing good things about them and they look nice too! He bought them brand new about 5 months ago, and they had been masking taped up for their short lives so no scratches on them.
Gave them a little clean to get all the dust off lol.

                    They came up quite nicely.

And some custom made door cards.

It's going to be a slow audio install due to having no overtime with work Going to try to do it all myself. Plan on going down the SQ route using Rainbow/Genesis speakers.

Right, a couple of weeks ago I managed to fuck up my front bumper. I bought a Cupra R splitter to cut & fit to the front. I got it all cut down to size masking taped it on and it looked good!!

Now came the problem, getting the front end lifted. Car was too low to get my jack under as I don't have a low jack, and too low to get up the ramps and had no low ramps!! Me being impatient I grabbed some bricks from the garden and drove onto them.. all was going well, put handbrake on to go grab ramps and as I got out... the one brick crumbled and collapsed. BANG!

A £40 splitter ended up costing me £200, decided to buy a new front bumper and get it painted rather than repair it as I would still know it's been dented ha!

I just got back from the bodyshop and the new lower bumper is now on, the colour is a perfect match, thank god! Although slightly shinier but the cars filthy at the moment
They did manage to fuck up my old bumper which I was going to keep as a spare as it was only lightly damaged, it has a huge dent in where they pulled it off but have told me they will try & pop it out!

I haven't put the splitter on either, and plan on trying this weekend. This time I'm gonna take the front bumper off to do it haha

And got home for some more good news!!!!

Just got my insurance renewal letter through the post.. I expected it to go up in price to around £2300 as I put my modifications on near the end of my policy, and they charge per month or so they said.

They want... £1049, that's with me being 19, and 2 years NCB & all mods declared!! Looks like I'm keeping the Lupo

Happy times, god I love Admiral!

I have got everything sorted with the bumper now, I think the colour match is spot on and the paint feels LUSH

LCR splitter is on too, not sure if I like it now... looks a lot better on black cars :angry2: I'm really not too sure on it! hmm

Anyway here's a couple of pictures.

So after going 10 steps backwards for just 1 step forward... I can now continue with my life after nearly pulling my hair out!

Audio next Doubt I can cock this up.......

Just as I was getting over the loss of £160 having to replace a new front bumper... my front windscreen now needs replacing, great!

D'oh by LupoGTi Photography, on Flickr

A local lad came round to add a 35% tinted sunstrip to the front, put a heat gun on the rear view mirror & gave it a wiggle n pop! There goes my screen.

Not having much luck lately am I?

It's all fixed now as this happened yesterday, good old Gavin came out (if you're from the UK) and repaired it with the poor lad paying. So now have a nice shiny new windscreen
