BITCH ASS: A Build of Average Proportions and Modest Income
I'm waiting on the coating to dry on the wheels before I epoxy in the hardware, but the wheels and tires should be on this coming weekend... Here's the hardware:
They're "fake splits", meaning that the bolts are just fake hardware epoxied into blind holes, but I did find out that they are welded 2-piece wheels. The name mislead me, I guess, these are actually halfway decent wheels.
Here is Kayla helping me assemble the basket:
And lettering the tires (I did this myself on two sets of tires last year and it about drove me out of my skull. She actually enjoyed it!)
Here it is with the basket installed and a Merk wheel from last year up on the roof:
What's left?
-Finish the wheels
-Mount/balance the tires
-Install wheels/tires
-Perform inevitable fender work
-Install and wire roof foglights
If I decide to go whole hog...
-Install spare front bumper
-Build crash bar
-Order more foglights
-Install foglights on crash bar

I guess you have to own an economy car to fully respect what you've done. From turning the mundane run of the mill econobox into a one of a kind, sports sedan thing really takes talent. Most people would rather have gotten an e30 or an s13 than build this. That's why those threads get so much attention even if it's a while lot of nothing.
Keep this thread around. I like seeing the updates, and who knows, you may have inspired some kids out there to put some wrench time into their focuses and similar cars. I know that this thread helped me push through some mods on my old elantra that I wouldn't have been able to do without the inspiration.
I mean, it wasn't a 100% run-of-the-mill economy car, it was the performance model, but your point stands 100%, and I think what you said actually illustrates itself even better than you intended.
I truly appreciate your kindness, and though I'm not out there trying to be a bigshot, I am very glad that my mistakes have inspired someone else to make the same transgressions with another car.
Fantastic photoshoot man, car looks right at home in the snow somehow.... Serious props for putting this kind of work into a car that most overlook. Keep it up!
Thank you so much! Stay tuned for a pretty interesting winter mode!

UPDATE:
Springs and camber plates are here! No, those aren't helpers in the picture, they're my actual front springs! Hopefully I can get it all installed within the next two weeks.
