  • Well... I mentioned another set of wheels and I have finally received them, what they are is a bit different of a story.

I bought them thinking they were 18x8.5, and after spending some time with a tape measure, they APPEAR 18x8.25 (had a few other people confirm what I was looking at). Backspacing is 6" both front and rear, but 2 of the wheels have larger lips than the others. 1/4" bigger lips to be precise. The backpads are slightly different on the rear because they're shaved down a bit more to match the same offset front and rear, but with a slightly bigger lip in back.

you can see the lip difference in this picture

I plan on either refinishing them myself over the winter, or possibly having a friend who does professional refinishing do them for me. (the same guy who did my BBS RK-2). I have 5x108-5x112 adapters already for the Carlssons, and they'll work just right given the widths of these wheels.

The story behind the wheels is that they're made by Simmons in Australia. From my research, Simmons appears to be a similar company to that of CCW or HRE but from down under. Of course, if anyone from Australia knows anything feel free to help me get some more information about these wheels!

        • Thats one fine looking Volvo you have there.
I was very surprised to see a set of Simmons on here, they have been a very popular brand since they started, which was back in the eighties i think. And yeah I guess you could compare them to ccw and hre. Good score buddy

Yeah, I've done some research, feels pretty cool to have wheels that I doubt anyone else has in the US. Makes me want to keep them due to their rarity in this hemisphere.

Any ideas on refinish combinations? I kinda want to keep them original, but with them being my first set of real 3 piece wheels, I want to do something cool and make them stand out.

            • Scored a few parts at the JY today, there's a decently clean R interior available too. Thought about pulling door panels but didn't have a use for them since it's a black interior. I did get the Bumper, ECU, and Cluster though! Contemplated getting the aluminum trim but I've never removed any of that trim and didn't want to break it trying, and it was a bit brisk outside.

Picked up a few more tires to put on the Simmons wheels, can't decide which to run so I will just have to test fit them and the Carlssons to decided which will spend it's time on the car!

Getting ready for show season and just have a few more pieces to the puzzle to get everything lined up with the car for the summer!

Thanks man! It's been neglected all winter, but that means I have lots of parts waiting to become a part of this machine!

Thanks man! I'm really trying to show that Volvos can be done well, Volvo guys need inspiration and often times walkthroughs on how to do stuff outside the box. I hope to see your car inspire others as well!

                      • Small Update, I'm moving on Tuesday to a new apartment that has a 1 car garage! I've got a lot of work to do and stuff to address before SoWo in May, finally the weather is warming up though so that will make it much easier to get stuff done.

                        Replace Ignition Switch
                        Install TME Exhaust
Install TKI rear spring perches and stiffer 8" springs
Drop off spare R Bumper for shaving and Paint work
Touch Up all paint chips and address small rust bubbles in a few spots
                        Paint Wheel wells with Undercoating
Get tires mounted to Simmons Wheels/test fit
                        Install Adapters and Carlssons/Simmons
                        Full Detail before SoWo

Might add a few other things pending time/funds before SoWo as well (Lip Spoiler, Jewels, Tint?)

Here's a pic for the meantime from its most recent wash.

                        • Moved it into my new "garage" at my new apartment. It needs to be cleaned and some more lighting installed but it should work well for keeping me out of the elements and providing me a place to work on the car and store parts!

Also, turn signals, alarm, and radio mysteriously all stopped working, all signs point to a faulty ignition switch. So I picked one up.

Carlssons might go on Sunday pending weather/work schedule! So excited for spring to finally be here!

I would personally use the center console vents for that, you dont have proper demist on the window when you fit the gauge like on JVC:s car
