Part 2

so the guys from BlackList came out to the shop, and we did some mock up of the intercooler and IC piping. jake would cut and tac the piping while mike held it in place. this wasnt the first time these guys had done this. in fact they both had lots of experience in they're fields. Mike was a grad from an automech program and jake a gifted welder who had attended a welding program.




anyways the guys headed off with the tac'd up piping to there shop in kuna. a few days later they came back with the piping. i then sent it off for powdercoating after i grinded down all the welds and jake added the bungs, blow off valve flange.



the powder coated piping came back in a few days later. its a textured flat black. but these pipes are just temporary. (along with the rest of the turbo system)

very simple design, not using 20 diffrent pipes and couplers like the greddy kits.
it fits snuggly up against everything and makes the car capable of laying frame ( if i feel like it )

fyi this is only 1/2 way down the collor of my stance Gr+ coilovers. (pick was taken later)



so a few weeks go by and a good friend/ future tuner of the car also by the name of Jake. sends me to a friend to talk cage work for the car. the company called Blackstone racecars, i call him up give hime my info and what i want done. he tells me it will be 4 months before he can take on any new clients due to work load. so i asked is there a list? he said no, just call back in 4 months..

i was angered by the statement, since i don't find that to be a good way to run a business. so I'm talking with jake from blacklist. he tells me hes going to be doing a cage in a sr20 e30. so over the time i had spend with jake, i definitley trusted him and his fab skills. so i asked if he would do mine, he agreed and things set in motion.

i purchased the 1in and 5/8s die for the pipe bender and the man with the e30 bought the bender. mike and i then decided to strip the interior. we dry iced out the factory sound deadening and then removed the wiring, panels etc.




a few weeks later jake and i went through and prepped the rest of the car. bangin the floor flat and setting our 6x6 floor plates. while jake mig welded the plates to the floor i sat under the car with a compressed air nozzle and would blow out the fire when the mig burnt through to the undercarriage coating. shit was dirty. i was covered in vulcanized rubber from head to toe

eventually we made it to the main hoop, jake mocked up the bends and i bent the tubing. our first hoop turned out some what crooked. since it was the first time we had done anything like this, the next try was right on the money. jake then tac'd it into the car and we then built the rear support bars.




over the next couple days jake finished the cage up carefully. it turned out better than i had expected





we threw some of th interior back in and the seats for mock up






door bars fit and leave plenty of room in the car and they are swing outs!
