  • got rear calipers and rotors done, had ordered new brake shoes, but ended up with the wrong ones. old ones are still pretty good anyway, so they stay in for now. do need a new handbrake handle though, half the teeth are pretty much gone.

    comparison old vs new

    bolted up

    and behind the wheel

its break time atm, then back out to do fronts

    • fronts are on, but i think ill end up going down to a 330i caliper, the caliper carrier width is a bit much for the rotor, so im going to be wasting pad, and to get the m3 caliper where i wnt, i need to machine more of the mounting section off, which starts getting a bit thin for my liking.

      oh well, live and learn

forgot to get comparison pics of the front, so only got a pic with wheel on

and yesterday while the rears were off, i decided to butcher my guard flare a bit more, tapping it back inwards to a more normal look. worked, but its not exactly smooth now. doesnt look any worse than the lhs though.

      • went for a drive after filling up, brakes feel good, car feels good, loving it all. still need to drop rear a tad, but think i need camber arms to dial in a touch more camber first.

        few pics(crappy iphone again)

              • had some sparee time at the end of the day today, so i tackled something ive been putting off for ages, my crooked boot lid.

this is about the best pic ive got of "before", right hand side sat down ~4mm below side of car, and left side sat up a couple mm. i played with hinges and stoppers previously with no luck.

so today i played with hinges some more, slotted the left hand side a bit more to bring it down, then had to twist the lid itself to make it work.

gotta sort out the bloody exhaust next :p

and another thing ive been working on during the week, the surround for my headunit.

no before pic, but it was the typical curved kenwood surround. didnt match the flat style of the vents/aircon.

                • so today i found out how easy it is to smash a 318is diff with a s50.

                  smash diff at around 3am
get back to mates place at 4.
                  ~5hrs sleep
                  source new diff
                  remove munted diff
install my old output shafts + fix dust seals + new oil + cleanup case
                  install new diff
                  test drive
                  job done

Finished by 4pm, So not bad.

                  Pics of the guts:

all in all a fun saturdayniight/sunday with a bunch of mates(was at a mates workshop installing another mates stereo). total cost to fix the car was $173 because i had to buy tools i already had, but they were 120ks away.

now i need to start sorting out a medium case diff.

                              • threw some new brake pad wear sensors in today, because the front one had broken some wires where itd been patched up before i got it, and threw on a new fanbelt, one i put on before it went in was 5mm shorter than stock(all i could get at the time), and left the tensioner with pretty much no movement. new one is 5mm longer than stock, bye bye belt squeal. well, for now anyway. see how it goes

and some driveway photos, because the xd card for good camera shat itself.

new headlights are on the list, tried resealing drivers side a few weeks ago, didnt help.

need to sort out that dull patch on the door oneday

identity crisis? nope, bmw make "clubsport" models aswell. this is the only side badge i really liked/wanted. little bit of throwback to my holden roots too i guess :p

and some engine bay shots. my mate posted my new washer bottle the other day, so that will be hidden by next week sometime.

                                love this car
