glad you gave up on this ridiculous idea.

I'm surprised that no one mentioned the fact that its awd as a MAJOR obstacle. In an awd system, to hit really high top speeds, the power transfer has to be variable. So much to the point that after 150mph you would need 100% of the power to the rear. With a non-variable differential too much of the power is split amongst all four wheels and it takes far more hp than if it were turning only the rears.

Not to mention the fact that it was a passat.

      Wow what a cop out.

Should have stuck with bags and RSs.
It's a failsafe method to celeb status.

HAHAHAHA! So much talk and you gave up when you ran into basically 0 problems. Fucking joke

        Here's your new sig:

When nothing else fails, iFAIL. It's all down to heat.

The suspension, power, and weight would have been the easy part. A 200 MPH top speed could be done. The suspension only needed minor things due to top speed no turns just making sure the car stayed planted ( which the body would be fine the way it sat plus an underbody tray.) the engine and suspension would cost around $7-10k to make around 650awhp which is what it would take to hit about 202. The problem was heat, like I said. The W8 generates a MASSIVE amount of heat. At 200mph the cooling system wouldn't be able to handle the heat generated. The cost to do a one off cooling system plus trans and oil coolers would be around 5-7k to be adequate.

Re-entry into the earths atmosphere would get pretty hot...

Such a failure of a thread, deffinately greatest lol thread of 2010 on SW.

I think the 7-10k estimate for 650AWHP is the funniest part to be honest

I registered just to tell you what a dumbchit you are. You were fine with a one-off $10k forced induction system, but a custom cooling solution was a deal breaker? A bigger radiator and a tranny cooler would run you $700 tops. Go to hell.

Seriously though, I'm just messing with you. If you decide to cancel or change up your personal projects, there's absolutely no need to justify it to anyone else. I've been looking to see if anyone has successfully built a forced induction w8, but so far have come up dry.

I want to put an 8 cylinder in my Elise and it looks like the W8 is the only production engine that will fit longitudinally without stretching the wheelbase (see hennessey venom). My biggest reservation though, is that my 1.8L makes more power power than a stock W8. I'm mainly doing it to get a more exotic sound, but I also want a bit more power so I'm not going to bother unless I can be sure it's good for at least 450hp. I guess I'll have to keep looking.

200mph is a no joke feat.. It's not just about hp either. I'm typically one to be supportive, but I think your goals are unrealistic at best. Enjoy the car, make it fast for a Passat, but avoid setting goals that can't be obtained without silly amounts of money.
Once again, I agree whole heartily 100%. FYI, a Bugatti Veyron(from a stand still) will hit 200mph in 23.8 seconds, it will hit 250mph in 55 seconds.
