  • Could you switch plates on identical cars?

So i was just curious. As to how possible would it be to ride around with with plates from another car that's identical and that i own. So what im asking is i have a corolla and im getting tired of maintaining the shell and problems with it and was looking at another corolla in much better condition same year just in a different state. I wana buy it and don't want to pay for new tabs and plates and to register it to my name. Besides The vin number how would anyone know? Thats as best as i can explain ha

Swap vins while you're at it. If you're ever in an accident and the vins are pulled you'll be fucked.

So you can afford to buy another vehicle, but not the $30 Washington registration fee?

I wanted to avoid the hassle to register the car under my name and do emissions since i think it still has one more year till its except. And having to buy new plates and tabs. Not necessarily a money issue more of just not having the time or wanting to be at the dol also im possibly getting this other car for deals. And i belive new tabs are close to 90 dollars? Plus plates and registration., but nevertheless i was just curious

What you are asking about is obviously illegal. If/when caught, you'd get several tickets and an impounded car.

regardless of looks- the cars are not the same. aside from vin numbers on the dash, there are the same vin numbers on the doors, fenders, door jambs etc.

not a smart idea. why risk the whole car being impounded, drivers licence being suspended, fines/tickets. sure you might get away with it if you are low key. but still highly illegal.

Depends on how good your luck is with the police

Technically, you could drive down the road without any plates on it at all. You can do anything you like, until you get thrown in the back of a cop car.

Don't be a fool. Do it legit, or stay off the road.

It's only illegal if you get caught. YOLO bro. Who's checking for Corollas. I say do it, and then post pics up here about it. That'd be legit.

I switched REAR plates on my AE86 and 3rd gen Altima for nearly 2 weeks, due to my Altima breaking down. Since the tags were current, I drove my Corolla to work, and to work only.

My Altima was parked backwards in the street, with the correct plate in front and Corolla plate in the back. Cop finally noticed the parking and was about to write a ticket. My pops happened to be outside and he told the cop I'd move the car. WHEW.

Never doing that shit again, but techincally, yes you can switch plates LOL.

If the car is an identical make, color, year, it is unlikely (unless you are doing something stupid) that you would get a second look from the police. Doesn't make it right, or legal. It would be best to simply and properly register the new vehicle and transfer the plates. Your choice.
