  • NA Miata Project Car?

So me and a few friends have decided that we are gunna pool some money together and buy a NA Miata, so we can turn it into a drift slut. We are gunna build it up from nothing to everything we can. So I figured I would ask you guys your opinions on this and for those of you that have NA Miata's how easy/fun they are to work on and drive. I hear they handle quite excellently.

DO IT! I want a miata so bad to make into a project car. My bff (lolz) parents had a miata, felt like corky romano everytime I rode in it.

I dont know if that is a good thing or a bad thing haha.

I have been looking into getting one for a while and then today I was talking to my friends and we all agreed that it would be an awesome idea and that we should do it together. So we are doing just that. Can't wait till summer rolls around to get started. Should be fairly easy to find one.

This just keeps getting better. Just thinking ahead here. How hard would it be to make our own roll cage?

depends, are you trying to make it to spec or just for looks?

lol then find out what the spec is im assuming and get a welder. You have to weld it into the frame and have like 6pts I think.

Just go buy one pre-fab and weld it in yourself

Sounds awesome, but if you are serious about track kinda stuff, please do not try to design and do your own cage if no one has much experience.

Hmmm that may be easier, but also may take some extra $$$. We shall see what happens. O.o

I do know a guy that has a track e36 M3 and he built his cage. So if we were to build our own he said that he would be more than willing to build the cage for us as long as we supplied the materials.

Keep in mind also that cage designs in E36s and miatas are very different. I am sure there is money to be saved, but is it really worth saving a grand or two if something bad actually does happen when out on the track?

Well I mean he makes cages for customers as well, and has done several cars including a Miata in the past so I would hope he wasn't just BS'ing me and actually does have the know how to do so. But right now this is all speculations seeing as we don't even have the car as of yet, and it is a few months away.
