  • Yellow Light, Who's the origionator of it?

A thought came though my head today when I passed a jetta with yellow headlights and a bunch of acuras and hondas with yellow headlights and fog lights. I never knew who originated that or if there even was one who did. So in your opinion or knowledge, who originated it, the euros or JDM?

Fog lights can be white, but are usually yellow because the colour beams can penetrate through the fog and precipitation. Based on research, red lights are the strongest colour for penetrating light beams, but since red lights are already utilized for the purpose of brake lights, manufacturers needed to choose a different colour to avoid confusion, and yellow was the next best colour. Also, yellow is symbolic in some cultures for caution, so yellow would be an appropriate colour

Its older than that. My machinist was telling me how back during the 50's the few cars that had optioned fog light were yellow. Also alot of tow trucks back in the day had yellow aux and fog lights

Would like to point out that LeMans race cars use yellow or white headlights so drivers can distinguish what class the car behind them is..

                    this.
In the 90's Lexus used yellow fogs, which many JDM car guys in Socal started copying. Some called it the "Lexus look".

I used to have a mk3 VW GTI. Stock fogs were clear. Some people used aftermarket smoked units (like me), while others imported OEM French (FDM?) fogs.

Back in the 60's/70's in the UK you could headlight converters for 7" sealed beam lights for when you drive on the continent they where yellow clip on things,

Those clip on pieces are cool, I used lamin-x on mine.

Basically french lights, they were yellow by regulation. BMW e30 wise, if you got yourself some french ellipsoids the lens were yellow glass. <- My 2 cents
