The French started it in 1939. I don't know if they were the first but that's the date.
In World War 2, the French tinted the glasses yellow, so they could easier identify their tanks from the Germans. This became a law that stuck around to about the 1990.
Super bonus fun fact. The evil Germans picked up on this yellow light things very fast, so they tinted their lights yellow as well on the Panzer tanks, and drove WAY closer than normally. And when it was to late for the French to do anything about it, the Germans started firing and destroying a huge amount of French tanks.-Instagram@jdjurhuus
