The first thing I did to my car was add a Kenwood headunit with Aux and USB input.

Fooling with CD's is soooo early 2000's.

I would do that, but it'd take away too much from the look of the interior IMO. I had an aftermarket headunit in the integra that I loved, but in the E46, the dash is far classier, and aftermarket headunits look out of place.

I completely agree.

I had an older Kenwood in my first car and it was going to cost more to make it iPod ready than buying a whole new headunit. I got lucky and sold it to some stereo newb for $75. lol

if not, try Grom Audio. i had it in my e39. worked well and i thought it was better than the DICE unit.
