girlfriend's beetle went into limp mode. considering i just put a new transmission, clutch/flywheel kit on it, all new filters/plugs, etc. if that shit is going to cost more than 3-400 to fix, i'm offing it and getting an e34.

Really? I thought Computer engineering was mostly the admin and management side, network\server, etc.
