One interesting thing though is my friend's R33 Skyline pops huge 1m+ flames and still has a 3" high flow cat present

He's probably running rich as hell. Extra fuel in the exhaust = greater chance for massive fireballs. If they're three feet long, and he doesn't have a system purpose-built for three-foot fireballs, then he's running rich.

And you CAN still fireball with cats, it just destroys the everliving fuck outta more constrictive cat systems. If I put a WOT Box on my K20, I'd have rhodium and palladium flying out of my muffler at 200 mph.

he is running a little rich, but not realy that bad looking at his AFRs

i think it is tuned a little rich to be on the safe side, coz the car gets tracked every weekend
in street class he is keeping the R33 GTRs on their toes
