  • Out of all of those I only have the R31 still.

I am really broke with far too many ideas.

      List them
stiffer, currently at 0 preload, FA recommends 1/4 inch.

        • When I cared about preload when I installed my coilovers some odd years ago, I tightened them as much as I could without using my own weight, and then loosened it a few turns.

                • Isn't 1/4" fuck all pre-load, would not change stiffness that much?

I know I ran a lot of pre-load on my car back when I had 7" long springs, so I was running pre-load to compress them and give me more base height adjustment thread. Understandably did make the front stiff as fuck

Then I switched to 5" springs and they sit 10mm un-captive at max low

                  • I can give no fucks about preload nowadays though, as long as the gaps are even and I'm low.

Not massively, but I didn't say I was going to run 1/4". More likely than not I'm going to run 1/2" and see how that goes.

                      height isn't an issue atm

I still have tons of adjust-ability in the back and about 1/2-1 inch up front.

                      • One thing I found when I was running a lot of pre-load is that sometimes the top coilover/strut top nut would come loose, because the spring would not be able to rotate freely during turns.

It only happened a couple of times and I always carry tools in the car.

Could easily notice when it starts to come loose as it starts making a knocking noise when the nut is no longer tight against the rose joint in the strut top.
