I think it is for a civilian to have one.

I know in NY you have to have a special license to have them.

I was just looking at the CT laws and its pretty clear cut. No magazine bans for assault rifles but there are some that aren't allowed. It didn't list them but I bet if you go to a local gunstore they would help you out.

Looks like its pretty simple for you to get your Concealed Carry permit if you wanted one. CT is a shall issue state and since your military it would be pretty simple.
