Only other mass produced car I can think would be faster. Not sure about Monte Carlo SS's though. They might have been too heavy...

They still use a Live rear axle even in the new ones with the exception of the Shelby's I believe, those get IRS.

I read an article in a Motor Trend probably a year ago where they raced a Mustang GT and an E92 M3 around a track for a day. The Mustang was .2 seconds slower overall. Ford has made the live rear axle work for that car. The only issue I know that still haunts it is wheel hop.
