i find them unsafe in any scenario. you oem seat is made to move in a specific direction on a roll over. A fixed back eliminates that so if you roll over (which is more of a possibility in an everyday scenario) you will probably die.

Well I wasn't necessarily talking about fixed backs, but regardless you are correct. My only point is, it's better than nothing except in a rollover.

Maybe its because I'm coming into this convo late, but I don't see how fixed back seats with harness' are more dangerous on the street.

When you flip, seat belts are made so that you have give, and can slide down a bit so you're not as high etc. There's a few different reasons, but that's the main. Plus, if your harness is mounted at the wrong angle = spinal compression. If you get if a big rear end/ head on collision, harness's have no give, so without neck restraint your neck takes pretty much all of the force.

I mean it would be just as bad if you had a normal seat belt, no? Harnesses are no more difficult, if not easier to release than a normal belt.

The argument usually goes something like: you wouldn't want to be upside down, halfway unconscious, strapped into a 4 or 5 point harness with the engine on fire.

But then I wouldn't want any of that even if I was using a regular seat belt.
